In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

As the subject says, I am fairly new to the site. I have actually used the BOI a lot for the past few yeas, and enjoy reading posts, but I am not a big talker myself. I figured I would at least introduce myself instead of just stalking you all around the board though ;) So hi!

Anywho, I have a variety of animals, a few leo's, a couple beardies, and I finally talked my wife into letting me get into the snake keeping hobby. I have a male pastel and a male fire, and soon a female woma. Here are a couple pics of my pastel, I was able to get him for 50$ near the end of a show I went too. I must admit, these BP fellas are quite habit inducing. I think I may have found a new addiction ;)

Welcome to a great addiction....I mean HOBBY!!!! I can stop at anytime...I just need a "few" more genes first!! ;)

welcome to the forum... an addiction... I just want that one snake still... then I'm done... but then there is that one too..... o_O

Welcome to the hobby, and best of luck not getting too carried away. I think someone should start a 12 step program...Step 1 is admitting you have a problem and I can already admit that now I just need 11 more...

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I was sitting here tonight browsing through an array of posts, and a question came up that I was curious about. How did all of you get into the breeding hobby, and how did you go about learning the aspects of it? I keep reading about probing the snakes, popping them, feeling for follicles, doing ultrasounds, sperm plugs (?) and so on. I know what most of these all are, but it seems to be more skill oriented. I spoke with a breeder at a recent show for a bit, and he showed me how to pop my snake, proving it was a male. I watched a ton of videos as well. When I tried it I was to afraid of hurting it, and only ended up having him pee all over me, lol. Probing looks to be just as touchy. Are these all things that you learned just out of practice? I don't really have any big breeding plans or anything, but I would love to do some pairings in a couple of years, just for the thrill and enjoyment of it. Though to be honest, it all looks a bit intimidating since I am on my own here.

Probing is easy, just be careful and gentle when you do it. Your best bet is to have someone show you. Popping is easy with little babies, not a good idea to do to an adult.

As for everything else, some things are really not a necessity. I never felt for follicles, never did ultrasounds, never cared about sperm plugs. I went by weight and age. Waited for my males to be at least a year old and at least 600-700 grams, my females to be at least 18 months and at least 1500 grams. If he showed no interest in the girl, obvious by curling up as far awat from her as possible, then he wasn't ready quite yet. If you're a dead serious breeder that makes your living off this, then those more technical things are more important. But for a hobbyist, just know the basics of cooling, pairing, and keeping an eye out for ovulation. Then knowing how many days later to start looking for eggs, and how to incubate them to successful hatching. Breeding snakes really isn't that hard, it's just about providing the right environment for them to do their natural thing and paying attention to their body language and behavior.

Good luck!

read alot of books and if you know someone else in the hobby they should be able to help. adn i find it far more easier to pop a baby than probing an adult but adults can also be poped this is my method of choice just talk to as many people as you can and read, read, read. good luck
