In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New York state law issues

and i think this bill should only include crocs and snakes that grow larger then 6 foot.
Why on earth would you support the use of an arbitrary number as a basis for a ban, particularly 6 feet.
Are Taiwan beauties too dangerous to keep now? How about black ratsnakes, many of the boas like dumeril's and rainbows, or jungle carpet pythons? All of these commonly reach or exceed 6 feet, why should they be included?

There are only four species of boidae that pose a genuine threat to humans. Even if you concede that they should be restricted, there is absolutely no basis to include any of the others and those four should be named specifically.

As for the inclusion of all the other exotics in the bill. That is a definate problem but a common tactic in legislature in general. Group a bunch of extra stuff in with the serious issues to get it all passed. Happens every day in congress and is a pathetic excuse for law making.
The legislators easily agree that big cats should be banned, and crocs too, the entire boidae family gets tacked on to be pushed through with the real threats.

This is why we all need to join PIJAC and have our own regulation...I know this will probably open a can of worms, but anyone that knows me, knows that I have been saying this for years. The reptile industry has to self-govern itself to keep the government from mandating "blanket" laws that ruin our industry.

I agree 110%!!!! When something threats our beloved hobby we need to stand together. We need to educate the ones that do not know about this hobby.

Awesome post.

A couple of notes of clarification on the NY situation:

- NY state already banns private ownership of hots and any crocodilians, so no new legislation is needed to control these species.

- The original version of this legislation banned only the 4 largest pythons species and anacondas. There were some last minute revisions before passage, and this section was, according to a staffer at the sponsoring legislators office, left out by accident....

She claims that since the bill already passed the house and senate they will have to introduce a new bill to make this and a couple of other minor corrections..... She seemed aware that this was a big error...

Hopefully, though, we can convince Pataki to veto the whole thing!!

Im not all that great with legal mumbo jumbo but read the first few lines in this paragraph from what I am gathering they are saying any "INCORPO-RATED SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS IS HEREBY AUTHOR-IZED TO ENFORCE THE PROVISIONS" Wouldnt that authorize the HSUS and Peta to enforce this law????

8. THE DEPARTMENT, ANY PEACE OFFICER OF THIS STATE OR A DULY INCORPO-
RATED SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS IS HEREBY AUTHOR-
IZED TO ENFORCE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION AND ISSUE NOTICES OF
VIOLATION TO PERSONS IN VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION, AND SHALL HAVE THE
AUTHORITY TO SEIZE ANY WILD ANIMAL HELD IN VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION.
WILD ANIMALS SEIZED OR SURRENDERED PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
SECTION SHALL BE TRANSFERRED TO A DULY INCORPORATED WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
AS DEFINED IN THIS SECTION, OR A ZOOLOGICAL FACILITY ACCREDITED BY THE
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF ZOOLOGICAL PARKS AND AQUARIUMS, OR SHALL BE
HUMANELY EUTHANIZED. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ALSO HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO
SEEK INJUNCTIVE RELIEF IN ANY COURT OF APPROPRIATE JURISDICTION TO
PREVENT CONTINUED VIOLATIONS OF THIS SECTION.

I sent out the same message Jason sent via fauna, to all registered at my website.

It's a shame that I actually recieved replies "please take me off your list."

This is always going to be an uphill battle, regardless.

ya one of the buisneses that I called yesterday seemed rather agitated about me calling. its a shame that some people cant see the reality of this, our actions today will define tomorrow, for all of us.

HOWEVER, A LICENSE TO POSSESS A VENOMOUS SNAKE
OR SNAKE OF THE BOIDAE FAMILY PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION SHALL NOT ALLOW A
LICENSEE TO EXHIBIT SUCH SNAKE IN A SCHOOL HOUSING ANY GRADES PREKINDER-
GARTEN THROUGH TWELVE.

what that says is even if the state grants someone a permit to keep the animals they may not use any kind of boa or python for reptile lectures within a school K-12, thats sad really sad

I guess since they left out the crocs the state4 of NY feels the school kids are safer with a 12 gator or 10ft croc monitor than a childrens pythons or sand boa

Someone has mail now. And for the record I was nice and polite about it. ;)

Does anyone want to help get a national society or soemthing to that effect up and going I am not looking to really create another herp society. Heres the probems I see with the reptile community, communication among the herp societies, buisnesses and show promoters. Those are the people that have the memeber bases and mailing lists to repond to issues such as this NY ordeal rapidly. Last year we got lucky and stopped Chicago that was because all of you jumped in and did your part for all of us, NY is still in limbo. What we would need to do is get a herp society or show promoter from each state to gives us one volenteer for each state. When laws come down the line we then pass it on to each "liason" for that state who in turn passes the info to each herp society, reptile show and any large buisnesses willing to get involved. They then pass it on and get the member/customer bases active, writing calling etc. etc. I know everyone says there is power in organized numbers but there is also power in individual numbers. Politicians pay attention to organized lobbying groups but they also pay attention to strong responces from large numbers of individuals, those individuals make up the bulk of their voter base. When they get 1500, 2000, 3000 letters from "dissorganized" individuals voicing similar opnions on a certain issue it shows them that issue is not a popular one. Ive already bought www.reptilenation.org and over the next few weeks will get the site up and going. Im not looking to step on the toies of PIJAC or anyone else I spoke with Marshal Myers from PIJAC last year about this and he agrees its a good idea. PIJAC only has so much money and so much time they cant fight every battle. But the thing is I need help. I cant do it all. I posted about this last year and only a couple people wanted to help. Sorry I dont have any money to pay anyone this is volenteer work for better of the community as a whole. What I will need now is some people who are will to contact herp societies, show promoters etc to let them know we are getting this thing up and going and see if they can provide a someone to be the "liason" for that state. Drop me an email or post here if you got some extra time and are willing to help thanks

New York reptile ban

There is some new info if you look up that bill. They will let you keep what you have at a application fee of not more than $80.00 per animal per year. The only thing you are allowed to do with them is take them to the vet. Othewise they are not allowed in public. You cannot breed them. Basicly let them live out their lives at a very expensive permit fee. I have 14 animals that is $1120.00 per year for animals that I cant even sell.
Would anyone be interested in going to Albany and raise hell?

The email to the gov.

is there any way to attach photos? I have some pics of my students holding my various snakes & such, including my nearly 9' female boa. I am bothered that he would sign a bill making it illegal to have school presentations! I would like to send an email, does anyone know how I could put the pics in the email?

I believe you can do it like this

the address of the photo [IMG]

That means you will have to upload the picture to a web site to get the url (if you need me to I can post it on my page for this purpose)

Not positive that would work, but it should.

Sorry I havent returned on the gold dust, cant find any guaranteed girls (I suck at sexing geckos and my buddy has been too busy)

Thanks Mickey!

I thought that might work, I loaded them up on photobucket. I am in no big hurry on the geckos, I also wanted to add some crested geckos to that order when you get the time, let me know. I know you have a ton of shows & the new store ... :D

I called Glades Herp and the guy who picked up the phone said "I don't get involved in stuff like this" and actually sounded offended that I would ask him.

I will give him this much, though...it was my mistake to call him. That company has gone down the toilet ever since the Loves backed out. MacInnes is a shoemaker.
