In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My Christmas present from my wife is to pick out a ball python.

I've been out of reptiles for a while, my last snake was a ball pytyon I had from young.

A great snake, and veteran of many renaissance fares.
Also a great wife, when we lost power years ago, in an apartment with electric heat, in the winter, ie 35 outside, and 50 inside, the BP slept with us to keep warm.

Later, I gave him to a friend after grad school, because I wasn't having enough time to make sure "monty" (yes, not very original, I know)
was having a lot of out of the habitat time.

Before that I had a reticulated python as a class snake when I taught high school. If no students had any issues, we left him wander a round some times.

He was 8 feet, so he wasn't going to get lost.

as a Kid I had a redtailed for 5+ years

So Howdy.:wavey:

I stopped myself from running to petco today after I read a bit on captive hatched.

I'm going to set up a terrarium any maybe see if local (SE PDX, OR) breeders have some young or see what I can find in January at the reptile expo in wislonville.

As I'm reading up on morphs, I keep finding that some have a greater changes of issues, (kincked, etc).

so are some interesting ones, that are as healthy as 'norms' and similar in price?

I've always like the normal coloring of BPs so maybe I can save myself spending serious $$ on morphs.

Welcome aboard Mark! Glad to have you join & spend time with us. There are lots of experienced ball python breeders & hobbyists that hang out here. Most are more than willing to help with any questions you have. I unfortunately, am not one of those experienced folks, so I won't be of much help to you.

Good luck with your search & info' seeking. I have a long time pen pal (since 1977) who lives in Boring, OR. I have been through Portland several times, you have a gorgeous part of the country you live in!

Hey Mark, welcome to Fauna!

I am sure you can find most information you are looking for here.
Make sure you check out the BOI before any dealing. It is a wonderful tool we have here.
We all like to see lots of pictures so be sure to post lots when you get your new ball!
Good luck with everything.

welcome. Go to the ball python boards and ask any questions you have there, you will always get different opinions to help you decide.

Welcome to the forum. I would not get a snake from one of the chain stores if you could wait till the next show. Alot of pet stores even the big ones don't know how to properly care for a ball python. At a show you get good prices ( you can get a male pastel or yellowbelly for the same price as a normal at a pet store.) You actually get to hold the snakes you like and will have PLENTY to choose from. Good luck and let us know what you decide on. Chris Hall

Mission accomplished, chain store avoided thanks to snakesrkewl
