In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Yesterday a friend gave me a baby Newport CaliKing; I thought they were also called 'desert phase'. Googling and MSN search did me not a bit of good. I thought these might be uncommon....dark brown snake with nondescript yellow narrow bands.....but another friend tells me they are 'common as dirt'. He had one clutchmate, a lavendar and yellow snakelet too tiny to eat and he could not survive. Can anyone give me any information about the Newport Phases that might be specific to them or might help me raise this one successfully? I feed f/t but he hasn't been fed f/t and also I can't say he looks runted.....but Schwarzenegger, he's not. Grateful for any input. Thanks.

I know this is an older post, but since nobody replied, I'll reply with what I know...

Among my own kingsnakes, I have one that is bred from Newport Stock. She is a very dark brownish black, and has light yellow markings. She's a "dot dash" because she is the product of a striped bred to a banded. She's also a LARGE snake. She bred in '03 and was hatched in '01. She ovulated twice, and if I'd presented her to the male the second time she would have double clutched. I think she could have handled it, but I didn't want to push her in her first year. She's by far the largest sturdiest most dependable of my kingsnakes.

She'll eat anything I put in front of her, and has ever since I bought her from the breeder.

The babies she had last year were quite stunning... let me see if I can call up a picture of both her and the babies..

Newport CaliKing

Sasheena, thank you. I think this is exactly what my little girl is. She's growing nicely, and eating small (SMALL) fuzzies now. I was afraid she'd regurg but did not. As I told you, her one sib was a tiny tiny nonsurviving lavendar CaliKing male. I didn't breed them but was given her in exchange for fussing with him, trying to give him every chance, as the breeder has a whole shop of reptiles and surely wouldn't have had the time although his skills certainly far surpassed my own.

Your pictures are wonderful and again, I'm grateful.

You are welcome. I like her, she is one of my first three kingsnakes. I bred her to Bishop, who we purchased at the same time from the same breeder, but was a completely different line of snakes. He is high white, which is why we got such variability among the babies. The prettiest one (not pictured) was a reverse stripe, and cute as can be, but sadly she dragged out her innards when she left the shell, so had to be euthanized. I think you probably got a great bargain. When we got the three kings, Queenie was the least "exciting" to look at, but last year, when I bred her and pampered her, and just watched her close, I got to really know her and her personality, and I've come to consider her one of my favorites.

If you have any other questions please ask. :)
