In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Not Good at all.....

New York state and county authorities say that a Long Island animal control officer was illegally housing and selling hundreds of snakes and other reptiles from his own home.

Newsday reports that Richard Parrinello, 44, reportedly kept 850 snakes in his Brookhaven garage, including two 6-foot-long Burmese pythons, which are illegal in the state.

Unofficial estimates say the entire collection of snakes, turtles and tarantulas is worth about $500,000.

Deputy town attorney David J. Moran said authorities made the discovery while probing whether Parrinello was committing workers’ compensation fraud.

He had also been running a website, since suspended, called Snake Man Exotics.

Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said the two pythons will be removed from the residence and sent to an out-of-state sanctuary. However, the fate of the rest of the reptiles remains undecided.

“I’d never seen so many snakes in one place before, even in a zoo,” Gross told the New York Post. “We were called in to see whether there was an animal cruelty or neglect [but] the animals appeared to be healthy and well-cared for,” he told the Post.

Gross told a local CBS affiliate that the pythons were being handled separately from the other reptiles, because they are particularly dangerous. He noted that two escaped pythons in Canada recently strangled to death a pair of young children.

Parrinello, who owns two vehicles with vanity plates reading “SNAKEVAN” and “SSSSNAKE,” is reportedly cooperating with officles from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the state's Department of Environmental Conservation.

He is likely to lose his job with the county if he is found guilty of illegally housing and selling the creatures.

Long Island has made recent efforts to convince individuals to hand over illegally owned reptiles, including hosting a Reptile Amnesty Day after more than a dozen baby alligators were discovered in the wild.

Wish there was more info on what types he had cause I see he sells BP's and Boa's on here. Both of which are legal in NY.

I'm guessing it was the "from his home" part that was illegal and not the particular animals involved. There are a lot of people from New York legally selling reptiles. Still, not good news as the thread title says.

Actually it was the snakes, but just the Burmese. This is why it's not worth it to keep illegal species. They are going over the collection with a fine-tooth comb. Sometimes they take all the snakes, then when/ if they decide to give them back, some are sick or dead.

acutually it was the workers comp case way to pay attention

Warning: take the back and forth to PM if you must continue, let's keep this thread on topic. I also hope Artie remembers to use his own account...

It wasn't Possessing the Animals that was Illegal

The animal control officer in Long Island who was arrested recently with allegedly $500,000 worth of snakes, turtles and tarantulas wasn't arrested for possessing the animals - except for the Burmese Pythons - which are illegal in New York. He was arrested for running a business from his home without the proper permit/license; falsely filing a workman's compensation claim when he was in perfect health and violating zoning ordinances due to the sheer "QUANTITY" of animals he possessed. It is not illegal to own arachnids in Long Island. Indigenous species of turtles are banned (spotted, wood, box, etc) throughout the state but most species are legal to possess. Long Island is not part of New York City (where they ban ferrets but permit Pit Bulls).
Additionally, the officer may have acquired his collection from the animals that have been confiscated from their owners in NYC.

did you read any of the story ? he was not arrested .
its not illegal to have that many snake / turtles/spiders
the dec was brought in to see if animal cruelty was happening
which it CLEARLY wasnt
so the whole story is was he allowed to sell snakes while on workers comp
which im sure when his court date for that comes up he will be fine

I don't think the workers comp thing will be an issue at all when it comes to selling the reptiles (other than to alert the police to the issue in the first place.) Apparently the only illegal animals he had were the two burms. He won't get into any trouble for having the other animals as they are all legal but the big thing will be the conducting a business form his home without the proper zoning and permits etc. Municipalities generally don't take that sort of thing lightly and with the inventory he had and the website and all I don't think they will have any problems proving he was running a business.

No Arrest but Charges are Pending

burmbreeder5, I stand corrected. According to longislandpress.com "charges are pending" against Mike Parrinello.
