In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,
I am new in this Gecko Forum and I have 3 Leopard Geckos. I just recently got or I should say adopted a baby gecko from the pet store. I think it is albino or maybe Vegas Albino. I was very concerned about the gecko because it was just sitting on the side of the wooden house in the cage, while the other baby geckos are in the cave house all huddled up together. All the other baby geckos grew bigger, except for this one. I noticed this gecko for a few weeks as a loner in this pet store so I told the reptile guy that it looked sick.
So, he took the gecko out and told me that there is nothing they can do, but let it sit there. I told him i can adopt the gecko and make it well like how I did for my previous gecko that I purchased from them. My 2nd gecko was eating for a while and I took it to the vet. I notice my gecko (Turbo) had swollen eyes, an infected ear and her tail was very thin like a toothpick. So, I hand fed it and gave anti-biotics. It weighed only 2g. Now, it s better. It took 2 months for Turbo to get well and now she is growing fast and her spots are appearing.
Going back to my 3rd gecko, he let me adopt it. I was happy, yet afraid that it might die on me. On the first day, I fed it with a syringe with smushed wax worms and vitamins. The tail is super thin by the way. It's the third day having this baby gecko and NOTICED IT"S TAIL ON THE SIDE a little cut near the body. The geckos are in one cage, but I separated the 3rd gecko in a portable platic pet cage inside the aquarium. I believe that it sat on its tail and the pressure made the connection of the tail from the body cut. I see a little red flesh and I am afraid to handle it. So, I took it out of the plastic container and took the lid off and put her under that lid so she wont attempt to climb and sit on her tail. I put water in her lid cage. It's the vented lid with a top that opens and closes. Since, I hand feed my gecko, I am afraid to feed it because of the tail. I need to feed it because it is super skinny. What should I do? I don't want her to lose her tail. Should I wait a day or so to feed her until her tail heals? I know that when a gecko is sick and trying to recover, you must keep it quiet to keep it calm. Please help me. Thank you-Stephanie

Stephanie, I am going to move this thread over to the Leopard Gecko Forum where all the experts can read it and comment...

Stephanie,

First off, Kudos to you for saving the geckos, it is a very admirable, crazy, but admirable thing you are doing.

You definitely should keep this gecko separate from the others you have, not only because he/she is super stressed out and injured, but because if that gecko is sick it can spread to your other geckos.

As for the enclosure you have it in, I am a little confused, you have her in the same tank as the other geckos but separated by putting it under the lid of a critter keeper? You should really separate this gecko from the others completely. And, keep her enclosure clean and slightly moist, and put neosporin/bacitration (sp) on the wound. Don't try to syringe feed her, it will only stress her out more. Leave a couple small worms in a bowl in her enclosure for her to eat if she decides to. Once the wound is healed then you can try syringe feeding her again.

Hope this helps, good luck with her!

Hey Jeanne,
Thank you for replying back to me. This is great! I just got home from work and checked if she is okay and she is alert because I saw her look when I came in the room.
Yes, it is a crazy thing to do trying to save the poor little runts I have the heart for, but it is a living thing. Thank you for the Kudos!
This gecko I had for for almost a week shedded the day I adopted it. So, that is a good sign. It is active and alert especially when it sees something move. Like my other gecko who recovered over a month ago was not so alert, it just sat there and somewhat moved when it had to.
I have put the gecko in the critters container lid and the other 2 geckos are in the cave. I know I will separate them today, but I am afraid of hurting the tail. The tail is wounded on the right side of the body and if I attempt to move it, it will try to run away in the tank like crazy. Maybe I should take out the other 2 and put them in another tank instead of moving #3.
So, use bacitracine or neosporin on the tail? Is that pet safe?
About feeding, I did put some small crickets in her critter container, but when I noticed yesterday her tail was injured, I took her out and used the lid since she is super small; about 2inches. I didn't want her to climb and put pressure on her toothpick, nonfatty tail. She made droppings the 1st day I got her and the next day as well because I fed her. She does not have any swollen eyes, ear infection or watery nose. She is just skinny like Mr. Burns in the Simpson show where the backbone is protruding. So, I thought I would help her retrieve some food and vitamins.
Although, she has defecated, I am sure that she is not having the adequate food intake. That is why I am helping her, not forcing, but giving her the needed nutrients. If she doesn't eat within today or the next, it will nerve wreck me. I couldn't sleep last night.
So, if I put her in a moist container, do I just simply mist paper towels in the the critter container? Do you know how long the little tail will heal since it has bad eating habits?
I also have another question...I had my geckos as babies, and I really want a male so I can breed. It seems to me that I have 3 females and for sure know that the 3rd one is a female. I was told that the lighter the gecko is, it is a female. When they are babies, can you see the V-shaped lines on the gecko? When I bought the first 2, the person in the reptile section looked at it and said it was a girl and they are still young. I had my first one since Dec 05 and it's already 5months. She is about 7 inches and very meaty. She has the V-shape, but the dark V pores. Do, I have to wait for the pores to get dark?
Please let me know and thank you for your help! Hope to hear from you-

Stephanie

Your gecko needs a vet right away. If it is that skinny, loosing its tail is a very bad thing. It needs to be separated from the others right away in a sterile environment on papper towel substrate. make sure it has plenty of food and water, a humid hide and a dry hide. I hope everything works out OK. Keep us Updated.
