HaHa! Called you out Ol mean Gecko Lady! I need some help! So far I still have 8. Nobody's died and nobody's puicking. A++ there. I am doing all of this very stressful talking with people that want these Geckos, on top of stressful routine cleaning and feeding for 8. I could pull my hair out, but thats ok, their lucky their so freggin cute!

I can't pay for all of these Geckos so I'm trying to tell people to get fecals for what they want. Its about $200.00 for fecals for all 8. Theres the one Vet thats farther away that I took Lickity to and they want to see at least one before doing any fecals. So thats $44.00 for a check up on one, and $18.00 a fecal for the rest.

The other Vets office is much closer and they don't have to see one and they are $20.90 a fecal. I am having one that has diarrhea, just one and for her fecal tac on another $30.20, so for her fecal its going to be about $50.00. There is no volume discount either. Shady freaking Vet people!

I would absolutely LOVE to take them all in myself but as stated I have my own. My Rats are absolutely going and theres $100.00 there, and I'm keeping one of these Geckos so I'll pay an extra $20.00 for mine. Other than that I'm trying to talk all my people into this $20.00 fecal deal because they will be the new Owners.

Problem is the one with diarrhea. At least right now. Nobody's going to want to pay for her. I don't get it though. Shes an Adult female kept with another Adult female. I couldn't tell which one was having diarrhea until I put them on the bed and cleaned them today. I don't understand why shes having diarrhea? Shes healthy looking, active, not skinny, actually nice and round and eats like a Champ. They said it was another $30.20 to run a G something test.

So if the symptoms diarrhea then whats the illness connected with diarrhea? She takes the biggest poops to, out of them all. Her urates come out in a chunk but not her pooh. I'm just kind of dazzled right now that she has the diarrhea and not the other one and what I'm going to be able to do for her. Anybody here in Ohio know how to do their own fecals? I swear I should learn how. If I knew how I'd probably save thousands of dollars by the time I'm old and gray. lol Well, Thanks for reading.

Another question about diarrhea. The rest of them have solid normal colored stools but some of them smell. Maybe I should just get a couple tested since they were all mixed together at one time or another and ask for extra Meds, you know just in case I run out. I am guessing Parasites or bacterial infection. Hhhmmmm. I can't think anymore, my brain just took a poop!

If they have been all mix together at one time or another, if ones got paracites then they all probably do. Cheap was to determine if it's paracites, take a poop from each gecko and mix them together. One fecal charge from the vet. If one gecko is positive for paracites you would most likely have to panacure the whole lot anyway.

First off, I would separate the two females and house them individually on paper towel. You will be able to tell who has the runny poop this way. Make sure your geckos' environmental requirements are met (belly heat warm temps. at 90 degrees and cool side at room temp.), their enclosures are kept clean and have their water bowls sanitized regularly, and their feeder insects are kept clean and free of moldy gut-load and filthy dead-cricket water, etc.

You can either take the runny feces to the vet for examination for parasites, or do like Bob suggested and get a conglomerate sample of everybody's poop to the vet. This way you should only be charged for one fecal smear and float test. If no parasitic infection is present, there could be a possibility that there might be a bacterial infection. Bacterial infections do not show up on a routine fecal exam, and the stool sample would have to be sent to a lab and a culture grown to identify the type of bacteria and which antibiotics it is sensitive to.

Do NOT try to diagnose this yourself, and especially do NOT administer any medication until you know what you are treating. In most cases, if caught and treated in time, bacterial infections respond well to a broad-spectrum antibiotic like Baytril. Problems like gastritis can also clear up on their own sometimes.

In the meantime, practice fastidious disinfection protocol. The majority of infections (parasitic AND bacterial) are transmitted via oral/fecal contact. Discard paper towel substrates daily, disinfect water and food bowls with 10% bleach solution or straight household ammonia (don't forget to rinse VERY well), as well as hides and anything your geckos come in contact with. Remove and discard any uneaten food items regularly.

I know this sounds pretty extreme, but until you have identified the problem you should treat this as if it could be something serious that your other geckos could potentially contract.

THANK YOU Marcia!!! I feel SO much better since you've arrived. I have been doing about 95% of what you listed. The only "medication" I've been administering is the liquid Calcium to the three with MBD. Wow, I wasn't sure about what Bob suggested but ok, $20.00 for a fecal for all sounds pretty great to me and I guess it does make sense since they've all been in contact with another in one way or another I'm sure. I keep everybody pretty spotless, now if I could just catch a good day where everybody doesn't pooh in their water dish. So if I get a fecal on all or the bad pooping ones at least maybe then I can administer the Meds to them all? Will this Baytril hurt to give to any that don't have parasites? Just some things I was wondering about. Thank you again Marcia!

If you have the fecal test done on only the "bad pooping ones" and the test shows parasites, then you would treat those geckos. If you use a conglomerate sample of all of the poops (good and bad), and parasites show up, then you would need to treat ALL of your geckos since you won't know which ones are infected.

Baytril is an antibiotic, not an anti-parasitic. If your vet suspects a bacterial infection, I would only administer it to your geckos that have symptoms.

Again, I am not a vet. I am only giving you my experienced opinion. You should follow your vet's instructions when treating your geckos.

Yeah, I'm going to call both places again tommorrow and request to talk to the actual Vet instead of the desk chick. That we can talk about specific symptoms I'm seeing and what my best bet would be. This sucks when you REALLY want to help all these poor Critters. Its just stressful!
