    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

since I'm expecting eggs from my shtctb male X tremper albino female, I'm trying to figure out what i should do with the keeping some of the hatchlings. i now i will be getting shtct het for albino hatchlings. my question is this...if i kept some of the females and decided to later breed the hatchlings, who should i breed them to? i have 3 males, a blizzard, shtctb, and a hypo. who would be best for the next breeding? i have a friend who knows someone that breeds leos and has some normals. my next question would be should i acquire some normals for breeding to help prove out the lines? he has expressed interest in doing some trading of my leos for normal females. should i do this? would a male also be acceptable to get as well? i am no good at genetics, so explain in layman terms please. also how do you get hybinos? what breeding does that originate from? thank you so much.
 
Hybinos/Hyglows/Sunglows are selectively bred Albinos. So you are starting on the right path to create your own, but you have a long road ahead of you. The best way to short cut selective mutations is to have at least one parent be the mutation you desire to produce.

To elaborate a little more. If you breed the best of the best siblings together you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting an albino, then you hope it goes hypo. Or you breed the best male back to the albino mom and about half will be albino, then you have a better chance of getting a hybino out of those albinos.
 
hey Jessica. well i just felt like chiming in. i doubt youll need any normals to prove anything out, if your trying to get hybinos then just use what you have. unlesss you want to take care of more animals that wont have anything to do with the project in question.

by breeding the hypo to the albino youll get some hypos that are het for albino. now your male hypo is done.

what you need is to incubate at least one of these babies for male.

then you can breed that male to the mother to get your hybino,
or to one of the female hets you produced from the first pairing with the hypo.

just to add i feel that your baby hets and your other geckos are more valuble than those normals you were talking about (at least as far as genetics are concerned, normals are cool too)
 
do you have more than one incubater? if not then you may want to cook for males in there, or you may consider purchasing or trading for a male hypo het for albino. (i happen to have one :) ).

or you could cook your males in the incubater and use the shelf incubation method (which ive never tried).
 
i only have one incubator, which i should be receiving on monday. i was figuring at doing the temp around 85 degrees to get a mix of babies. this way i will have both sexes het for albino and will try to see if i can start my own hybinos. i would like to get to work with my blizzard, maybe a banana blizzard or a blazing. i still need to learn how to go about working with genetics to get the morphs i like. i was planning on picking up an esu remote temp sensor to also put in the hovabator to keep a better eye on temp control. now i have a good question, when the time comes to sell the ones i don't wish to keep, what would i charge that is fair? how do you know? i need to get a new camera since my daughter decided to break our last one.
 
cool. just to add i didnt have luck with the midrange incubation method. i ended up with males, i split those babies tho so maybe he got the females. i prefer better odds of getting what i want.
