This is more for fun but also curious for people's opinions...

My favorite female Zahara is going to be paired up again this next season. I know I post this pic all the time, but it's the best pic when she was her most colorful at 5 yrs of age. She is 13 this year.

There are two males I want to pair up with her but which male do you think I should use first? Which do you think could be most exciting and why?

Either
Red Group Jungle - Kirk (old photo)

OR
Hypo Harlequin - Redboy (her son from '06 litter)

here are her prior litters to give an idea of what she throws.

'09 litter when bred to a (not that colorful) kahl strain albino (18 babies, 2 slugs)

Thanks for any opinions!

Before I make a decision would we be able to see some current pictures of Zahara? I probably already know the direction you want to go, as you have a great deal of love for the Harleys. But, maybe do something a little different with her?

I plan to breed both males to her just not sure which one I should do first.

More current pics, she's still quite light but the pink has faded over time, especially after she had the first litter:

this is her gravid with the '09 litter:

you can also see her in my youtube "Hooray for Boas!" vid, she is the boa starting at 4:15 through the end

ps - I do have an anery male but plans for him are to pair up with one of Zahara's hypo harli daughters that is super pink and light. It is something to consider though!

Interesting April. My harlequin female will be old enough to breed this year, she is a lot cleaner than my male. I was actually thinking about breeding my jungle het anery to her. Just think a hypo harlequin het anery x harlequin jungle het anery

I know why you asked for advice on this, there are so many options! I still think she is beautiful, even at 13. Here is to hoping she makes it over 20+

I have always liked what any nice, clean Harlequin could do to just about any project. I personally would like to breed my male Harlequin to a female Arabesque, maybe clean up there "besque" pattern a little. Hey! I got it! Bill has a male Harlequin that would give you some new blood! lol. There ya go!

If I read your post correctly, youre going to breed her with her own son?
Or did I just read that wrong?

Yes, that is correct. The father of that litter is completely unrelated, doing a one or two generation line bred inbreeding should be fine but of course if there were any genetic anomolies I would cull the litter. I would be doing that breeding 2 reasons - to see if any hidden genes in Zahara's line and to make some super pink hypos.

I plan to make F2s (brother x sister) from the '06 litter as well. Of course I am always up front about the breedings so anyone would know exactly what they were getting.

I like the jungle male for her. There is something about a nice clean pink jungle that I love, but thats just me. I bet the babies would be very colorful from her and that jungle.

I'm not a big fan of direct inbreeding like that, I know it's not a big deal over one generation, just my preference. I would say make some kick ass jungles if given the choice of those two snakes. Personally, I would find a kick ass pastel male and make some extremely nice pastels.

cool, the jungle is who I was leaning towards as well; since Zah tends to throw clean kids I'm hoping she'll make some clean, pink jungles. Kirk is gonna get a chance to prove just how suave he is. He's an '08, still a bit young but hopefully he is up for the job! Thanks guys, I really appreciate the opinions.

I voted Jungle. I don't know why, I just think you'll get the cleanest animals that way. Even though the Harley is quite clean himself, my mind seems to think the Jungle mate would make cleaner babies.
