    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Opinions needed, please . . .

I recently sold three '01 corns of average value to a local petstore on consignment.  I told the owner what I wanted for each of them (120.00) total, and said that he could sell them for whatever he could get out of them.  I never sell animals this way, but the guy has been a friend, and I have worked with him in the past.

However, I recently heard from another person (reliable) that the pet shop owner let his "behind the scenes" animals go way down hill.  He has, I am told, horrible conditions in the tanks and even let things get so bad that a very valuable snake died for simple lack of basic care.

Now, here is my predicament.  First, I don't know if any of this is true (which is why I'm not posting any names right now), but the source has never lied to me either.  Second, while I am looking for $120.00 from these animals, I have very little actually invested in them.  Third, regardless of the money involved, if the conditions are as bad as I've been told, I do not want to a) leave animals of mine in that store, b) be associated in anyway with such behavior, or c) supply him with new animals so as to prolong his mistreatment.

I'll deal with the accusations head on, as I always do.  My question to you all is this.  Do I owe this guy some money for breaking the verbal contract we had in regard to the consignment?  Obviously, his money was contingent upon his selling the animals, and he never did.  However, that would be true, in part, because I will have removed them from his ability to sell them.  I want to be fair, even to someone who (if this is true) will have lost my respect.

Any input from you all will be more than welcomed.  I'll pay the money if that's what it takes, but I don't want to unless ethically bound to do so.

Thanks

In my opinion, if you break your consignment deal, then you owe him nothing.  As you said, the whole deal is contingent on his selling the animals, which has not been done.  You are not taking anything away from him as I see it, just taking back your animals.  He hasn't given you any money, you haven't given him any, he hasn't sold your snakes, nothing earned, nothing gained in my book.

But another point to this is...if the store is in as poor condition as you are being told, are you sure you WANT to bring those snakes back into your home?  There is no telling what they may have picked up while they were there.

Best of luck, though man.  I hope it all works out okay for you!

Darin....give him money for what??? Unless there's something you haven't told us....there was NO contract made between you two?? Y gave him some corns to sell on consignment! AFTER he sells them, he was to give you $120....there was no mention of any monies that would be owed if he didn't sell them?? I would suggest you go get them back....friend or not....this is business....nothing says you have to stop being friends....but, when money gets in the way, it could cause a lot of stress and problems....Neil

Darrin,

First get the animals back into your safe house where you know how they will be cared for. (I would highly reccomend quarantee of the animals) Do not worry about oweing him anything, as consignments are just that CONSIGNEMENTS.  NO money changes hands until the animals are sold.  You as the owner of the animal always have the right to remove your animals for any reason you see fit.  After and only after you get yoru animals back, then I would bring up the question about his care (or lack thereof) of his animals and your concerns.  If he is a good business man he will tell you the truth about what may or may not have happened.
