In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

opinions, please...important (to me)

I have taken my sweet time getting around to this, but today is the day for getting to things. I won't go into some of the details, as they are not relevant to the question at hand. I recently received a snake that, upon inspection, I felt had a specific problem. The seller disputed my assessment. She shed last week, so here are the pics I took today. Tell me what you think.

The indoor pics show the cloudiness on the pupil and outside when the pupil is dilated the cloudiness is smaller do to the dilation correct? From the top photos it also appears that the lens is clear. I have never seen that before, I don't want to sound dumb (but I will anyway), is that what cataracts look like or do they effect the lens? Or is it blind? I wish I could be some help.
I would be very upset if I received that snake without being advised of its condition.

It DEFINITELY looks blind to me. Those have to be cataracts or some other ailment of the eye and from looking at it, there is no way that snake can see....

Upon glancing at those pics, my first thought that there is a cataract problem. Though the shaping in the pupil is too symmetrical and it is on both eyes. Being as cataracts form behind the lens of the eye and it also takes on an uneven shape which may only cover a part of the pupil.

Harald, is the snake blind? If so then I would venture to say it is a born blindness. If not, then that snake has awesome looking pupils.

(as initiator of the thread, I appreciate all your comments...but I am going to hold off a bit on expressing MY opinion here, in order to allow a bit of time for others to add their input)

Oh, I see how you are! Just let a bunch of us flap our lips and not give us an idea of what you are looking at. Maybe the eyes just stand out of the head too far, but noooooo you won't fill us in!

((Enter sarcasm somewhere in this post))

ROFLMAO - I will say what I think...I just don't want to sway the thoughts of others, since I clearly have a bit more insight to this situation (the snake lives here). I am just looking for thoughts/theories based on the pictures alone...the idea being that we are all looking at the same thing - those pictures.

Well since you said it recently shed, I am assuming that it was indeed a full shed. If that is the case it definitely looks like the snake is blind or very near to it. I agree with Michael's thought with the cataracts, doesn't look like them.

Maybe its possessed and Harald is planning on releasing it on the world soon to reek havoc......:reddevil:

Agreed. The "cloudiness" appears to be either the lens itself or the fluid inside the eyeball (more to blindness or extreme eye disability), and not the sclera or cornea (cataracts or other eye covering problem).

WHO TOLD YOU?!?!?!?!
I know that darned Nicolai has been wandering around practicing his invisibility...hmmmmm

Harald, In my opinion this snake cannot see much if anything. I appears to have had a serious eye disease (infection) or was blind at birth.

I will tell!!!!!! Nicolia made me promise I wouldn't...... DOH!!!!!!:slamit:

it looks just like a friend of mines dogs eyes . he has been blind since birth . i would think by looking at those pics that it has never been able to see . it looks like the fluid inside the eye is cloudy .

This may "cloud" the speculations, but a truly blind eye, especially long standing blind like from birth, won't respond to light. The pupil won't constrict and expand in response to light levels.

I have seen eyes on other animals that look just like this, and from my experience, it was caused by some sort of infection inside the eye, and gone untreated, scar tissue builds up. It "clouds" the vision as cataracts do, leaving no real sight, yet the impression of light and dark...they can see shadows and such, but that's about it.

Alright Harald come clean now! What do you think it is? I am sure its not possessed even though Nicolia told me it was....

I thought that she was blind, at least effectively so (today was the first day that I took her outside, and I really haven't noticed any pupil response until then). The seller was adamant that she is not, stating that she just has white eyes ("really freaky"). He also insists that she is CB and feeding great on f/t...personally, I don't believe either - she more scarring than I would expect to see on any animal so described. Also, I have had her here for about 2 months now, and the only meal I was able to get her to take started with a live mouse. That story, IMO, further lends to the idea that she is functionally blind. I put the mouse in with her, and watched...the mouse wandered around for a few minutes with absolutely no response to the snake until the mouse hopped right past her face. A flick of the tongue, and she was following its scent. Oops, she bumped right into it. Couple of tongue flicks to make sure, then a strike to where the mouse had been sitting. (nothing but air). Back on the scent. Oops, bumped into it again. Flick, flick, strike (air). She managed to get a hold of the back end on the 4th or 5th try, and quickly consticted...leaving enough of the neck/shoulders free that the mouse was able to try to bite (I intervened and ended that nonsense). After she finished, I offered a f/t mouse - no response until I held it nose to nose with her. Flick, bite, swallow. Then another. Since then, I have offered her f/t again without success. Will be picking up a few live ones tomorrow...I will be interested to see if she repeats her past performance.
