In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Opinions please

I agree with David...I would be unhappy about receiving snakes in an old cricket box, even though they did take the time to add the styro.

Unless there's more that I'm not seeing, it looks like they took the time to add two scrap pieces of styrofoam, perhaps these were to cover the screen vents.

No, I wouldn't like to receive snakes pachaged that way, and I would never consider actually shipping anything but bugs in a cricket box.
It's just too easy to properly package an animal for safe shipping, there's no excuse for something like that, although I have seen quite a bit worse.

Actually the styrofoam was placed on the top (and it was borken in 2 pieces). Only the shredded paper covered the screens.

I was ticked when this arrived but thought I might be overreacting.

I ship in new insulated boxes and didn't want to cause a stink if this type of box would be considered acceptable to use.

Not overreacting, I would be ticked too.

I also use new COMPLETELY insulated boxes. That box is completely unacceptable.

Definately not overreacting. I don't mind reusing a box if it meets my standards. It's a responsible use of resources.
There's nothing about that box that's acceptable though. Anyone who packs animals in that fashion has no business shipping reptiles to begin with.

If the box is good, there is no reason to waste it. I have reused boxes in the past that were in good shape. I would just never think to use an old cricket box to ship a snake.

Not everyone thinks the seller is at fault.

Here is one opinion.

I honestly don't know what others think. I'm just irritated with people who complain about how other people ship. You bought it, or had it shipped, or knew it would be shipped. Why not ask first how they plan on shipping, and try to assure that YOUR expectations are met? Isn't that kind of a responsibility we have?

This guy got some scorps shipped to him, via an illegal method, and wanted to complain about them not showing up when promised. Same thing here. Just ask the person who's doing the shipping how they plan on doing it, or request it be done a certain way.

If you want to be uspet with the other person, that's fine with me. Feel free to rip them a new one if you so choose. Hopefully you can get something out of this, and communicate a little more on the important matters next time. Not trying to offend, just my take on the matter.

Here was my response that opinion.

I asked how he was shipping.

He told me UPS overnight. (BTW, he sent it UPS next day saver instead and forgot to include that bit of info).

I am supposed to ask if a person shipping a snake is going to use and old cricket box?

There is no way that can be construed as a lack of communication. Reusing a box is fine as long as the box is still good (no reason to waste it), but using this type of box is unacceptable (to me at least).

This is just one of the things that I was unhappy about.

I got shipped a snake that was the wrong sex, in an old cricket box, and sent UPS next day saver instead of UPS overnight.

I decided to just keep the snake and not chance sending it back and having another shipped out in this manner that might end up being the wrong sex again.

I posted to see if I was overreacting by expecting people to use decent, suitable materials to ship with.

I guess I need to not only ask what shipping will be used but what box as well from now on.

I chalked this up to a bad experience. At least the animal I did get arrived healthy. That is all that matters regarding this deal.

I just sent a note to the seller saying the deal is done, I am just going to keep the snake he sent. Less to worry about and I will find a mate to pair him up with.

Time to just forget this deal ever happened and move on.
Sometimes this biz just really frustrates me.

I do see your point..

and I also re-use boxes. I get my boxes from my old employer. They are fully insulated "Meds" boxes that we used to receive vaccines in. They are like a box in a box, so to speak. They are a cardboard box with another Styrofoam box inside of them. When they are packed with meds they also have a free cold pack in with them!:)

My old employer, who is also my mammal vet, gives them to me for free. I then virosan the heck out of them and just to be safe, spray them with PAM and let them air out for a few weeks before using them.

I, however, would never use an old cricket box...provided I knew it had had crickets in it. When I get my Bug Co. order they would pack all my waxworms, mealworms and superworms in a separate box that looked just like the cricket boxes. I might have re-used one of them as they are not "dirty" after you take the mealworm, waxworm or superworm containers out of them if I did not get a far superior box for free and provided the weather was warm enough.

Was it a "used" box? Or was it a box "normally" used for crickets? Crickets poop...a lot...so it would be easy to tell.

Im looking to sell a snake online... And I dont know how I would be able to ship it. If there is someone out there that can help me with this issue please email me at [email protected] with the information that I need to ship a live snake. Thank you! Paul
