I debated on where to put this commentary...I didn't want to further clutter the threads in question, nor did I really want to waste space by starting a new thread (this could be just as big a waste, but I think it needs to be said).
Yes, I am a new site mod...but I have been functioning here in various moderator roles here for some time. I don't have all the answers, and I'm sure I will make some mistakes. I plan to consider both Rich's stated desires, and the precedents set by the other site mods, when determining a course of action. Historically, I have tended toward tolerance - perhaps too much so. The degree to which that will change will depend on the current climate here...and just how tired and cranky I am on any give day, of course

I don't expect that everybody will understand or agree with my decisions or actions...and that is fine, as long as they don't expect that I am going to change those things based on their feelings. If another site mod thinks I am being too lenient - I welcome their input and/or intervention.
There is currently a situation where I have left open a couple of retaliatory threads (similar threads in the past have been left open, others have been locked). My rationale had nothing to do with leaving them open in anticipation of somebody coming along to agree/disagree. I didn't explain my rationale, nor do I feel the need to...but I did express that people should not fuel the fires with further posting unless they had actual business transactions with the parties named in the thread title. My decision was not up for debate within those threads, nor were any other extraneous topics.
I'll admit that the OP of those threads was trying my patience - but I felt that a little leeway was merited under the circumstances. Admittedly, I was briefly torn between making a strong statement vs stepping back briefly to watch & see. Obviously, I chose the latter...but given my current understanding of Rich's wishes, and the way he wants things done (including some necessary changes), I'm not planning on being so tolerant in every case.
Rich - I hope you don't come to regret your decision to bring me aboard.
To those of you that have expressed kind thoughts here - thank you.
