In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Harald has been pretty much acting in this capacity for quite a while now, so I figured I might as well make it official. He's one of the most dedicated people here on this site and seems to spend more time here then away.

So everyone please give Harald a big hearty congrats, and try not to beat up on him too much......... :?party:

Congrats! I haven't been here all that long, but from what I've seen it's an excellent choice.

Our very own Glitch!
Congrats dude~
Don't ya love it how we congratulate you for taking on the Thankless Job we don't want?
Congrats Glitch~ you are the man for the job~ and thanks for doing it!

lol - maybe I should change my user title to The Glitch is gonna get you!

I debated on where to put this commentary...I didn't want to further clutter the threads in question, nor did I really want to waste space by starting a new thread (this could be just as big a waste, but I think it needs to be said).

Yes, I am a new site mod...but I have been functioning here in various moderator roles here for some time. I don't have all the answers, and I'm sure I will make some mistakes. I plan to consider both Rich's stated desires, and the precedents set by the other site mods, when determining a course of action. Historically, I have tended toward tolerance - perhaps too much so. The degree to which that will change will depend on the current climate here...and just how tired and cranky I am on any give day, of course :ack2: I don't expect that everybody will understand or agree with my decisions or actions...and that is fine, as long as they don't expect that I am going to change those things based on their feelings. If another site mod thinks I am being too lenient - I welcome their input and/or intervention.
There is currently a situation where I have left open a couple of retaliatory threads (similar threads in the past have been left open, others have been locked). My rationale had nothing to do with leaving them open in anticipation of somebody coming along to agree/disagree. I didn't explain my rationale, nor do I feel the need to...but I did express that people should not fuel the fires with further posting unless they had actual business transactions with the parties named in the thread title. My decision was not up for debate within those threads, nor were any other extraneous topics.

I'll admit that the OP of those threads was trying my patience - but I felt that a little leeway was merited under the circumstances. Admittedly, I was briefly torn between making a strong statement vs stepping back briefly to watch & see. Obviously, I chose the latter...but given my current understanding of Rich's wishes, and the way he wants things done (including some necessary changes), I'm not planning on being so tolerant in every case.

Rich - I hope you don't come to regret your decision to bring me aboard.
To those of you that have expressed kind thoughts here - thank you.

Well said, Harald....

For the record, generally my policy has been that threads are only locked as a VERY last resort. If a thread gets carried away, we should deal with the members carrying the thread out of sorts rather than basically telling everyone else that we do not want them discussing this topic any longer. A locked thread excludes EVERYONE from participating, even those who may have some valid input to share. Sending a member packing, however, eliminates that particular problem in the thread, and quite likely future ones as well.

We do not want to repress anyone's freedom of expression here. But once they have stepped over the line to where they are no longer reasonable in the choice of words or attitude in their posting, then they need to be removed from the discussion.

Temporary bans are OK for first and/or minor offenses. Permanent bans are for those people who make it obvious that this place will be much better off without their participation.

Yeah, this is certainly a mods type discussion, but I felt it needed to be stated in the open so everyone can see the direction we are intending on heading with how this site will be moderated.
