AKA Grinning Geckos
I get the willies thinking about it, but my husband and I are CONVINCED that we have a spirit in our apartment. He says his parents house used to be haunted, but I've never lived somewhere that I thought was haunted.
Fortunately, our spirit seems to get a kick out of teasing us, and that's it. Nothing too scary has happened until recently.
Ever since we moved in to this apartment (about 1 1/2 years ago) strange things have happened. Occasionally we will hear one of the doors open and shut, and it will seem like someone is walking around, but no one is there. It's not the same sound as a neighbors door opening. That happens most often - strange, but not too scary once we see no one is there.
* Turning on the lights - cuz I'm a scaredy cat *
One time, Eric kept walk past the bathroom and turning the light out. He got so tired of doing it that he asked me to be sure to turn off the light - yet I hadn't been to the bathroom. The whole time I had been in the computer room. !0 mins later, he told me I forgot to turn off the light AGAIN!
A few months ago, Eric was taking a shower. When he came out, he asked what I was looking for in the bathroom. When I said I hadn't been in the bathroom ...
* Lights now flickering!! Normally noisy roaches are dead quite. Hair standing on end - I'm totally freaked! *
Anyway... I asked what he was talking about, and he said he heard the bathroom door open and shut, and then heard someone moving stuff on the sink. It went on long enough that he asked what I was looking for. As soon as he said something the noise stopped. He looked out of the curtains, and the room was empty.
* Called my trust best-pal kitty over to protect me - ROFL - I'm such a wimp. *
All of that had happened and we were only semi-convinced that we might have an invisible roommate.
We had also noticed our cats acting funny recently. They'll focus VERY intensely at NOTHING - sometimes chase after it. They never really did that before. We once watched one of them stare at the wall and meow at it for 10 mins. It was sooo funny - but odd.
We had recently gone on vacation, and left the cats here. Normally when we go on vacation and come back, we get a royal cuss-out from Troi (my current lap-warmer). He really lets us know that us leaving him was not nice. This time we came back, and he could care less. I've had this cat 15 years, and any time I'm away for an extended period of time, I hear about it. He learns my schedule and gets upset if I'm late (he waits by the door). But this time he did nothing - was more interested in our bag than us.
When I went to bed, I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned. Just as I'm drifting off, Eric comes to bed and wakes me up. I start falling asleep again, and get woken up to Eric asking if I had moved or hit his pillow. I said no, and he said that was weird (he's thinking I was messing with him). He gets back to sleep, and as I'm trying, something SLAPS my pillow HARD! It wasn't a cat going crazy, because there were no tell-tell meows, or sounds of paws hitting the floor.
When I told Eric the next day, he said that it was the same thing with his pillow. It was hard enough to bounce his head up. He no longer thinks I was messing with him. Now we are sure that we have a ghost - one that was upset we left him/her with all the animals! LOL
I think our spirit was playing with the cats while we were gone, and that's why they didn't seem to miss us.
Some of it's funny (like the cats), some harmless (lights), but some of this stuff really creeps me out.
So how do I tell the ghost of the house to cut the scary stuff and stick with the funny stuff?
