In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello, my name is Shane Howery. Unfortunately I have to post a bad guy thread.  On August 29th 2009. at the Manassas VA Reptile Show run by Larry Keton I bought a Pinstripe Ball Python from Outback Reptiles for $275. This snake was very young and had not yet been offered food and I was well aware of these circumstances. I was guaranteed that in 1-2 weeks it would feed. I waited and attempted to feed it after a week. Then after 2 weeks. I even called Outback and asked about this. They gave me tips and I tried and failed. I would like to receive full compensation in the form of a re-fund from outback reptiles. I feel that I was given a sick snake that is not feeding and may be ill. It is quarantine and has been from day one. This is not my first ball python.

You bought a hatchling ball python that was not feeding yet and as you stated you were well aware of these circumstances.

A hatchling bp can be difficult to get started feeding sometimes, if you did not have the experience to deal with a hatchling maybe a bp that was already feeding would have been a better choice?

Sometimes a hatchling will not eat for a while then all of a sudden start eating like a piglet.

I am good friends with Shane, we co-own a small reptile breeding operation. I was unable to make the show due to family issues that take precedence over the reptile hobby. I have seen the snake. It is a healthy looking snake on the outside. But on the inside who knows. I think outback should give him a feeding animal or refund the $275

That is true. They did tell him that is was garunteed (i bet I butchered that word) it would feed in 2 weeks according to Shane. Again I was not able to make the show and he let me know he got the snake and I came over that night to see the snake. It looked healthy but again on the inside who know.

You purchased a baby ball python that hadn't been offered a meal yet, and you were fully aware of that because the seller disclosed such to you, and you aren't new to ball pythons but accepted a sellers verbal guarantee (which God only knows you don't have in writing) the snake would feed in 1-2 weeks, and needed feeding tips when it didn't eat (which is odd because you have experience with ball pythons or so you claim), and you think something may be wrong with the snake but you haven't taken it to a vet yet to find out, and........I'm about to crap my pants from laughing at the outstanding job you've done in contradicting yourself. Some us here were born at night, but definitely not last night.

Start over fella, start over with the truth or something that mildly resembles it.

I don't know outback reptiles, don't know if their reputation is good or bad, but your story (the way you've explained it) really stinks. Really.

You have implied 2 times that something may be wrong on the inside, if thats what you think go directly to a herp vet.

Seriously, relax put the bp in a small shoe box size rack with heat. dont bother it, try offering fuzzy mice around every 5-7 days.... it will eat in time if its not disturbed. sometimes it takes maybe 6 or more weeks for a hatchling bp to start feeding. it does not mean you have a sick bp on your hands.

Good luck with getting it started.

Ok, he has experience. You post is rude and over all you are jumping straight to conclusions. He is telling the truth. Mabye you don't need to judge so much!

I don't mean to be rude, really I don't, but nobody really likes to be lied to.

And if the best he has to support his story is your stepping in to say "he has experience" when clearly it would appear he doesn't, then you aren't only lying to us but your also lying to yourselves.

Would you like the opportunity to the truth about whats going on? Its a really good feeling and most people are attracted to it.

It's been what, two weeks since you bought the snake? If you waited a week to try the first time, that would've been the 4th. Two weeks later for the second attempt would be the 18th which isn't even here yet.

Had it had it's first shed when you got it? Some babies don't like to be mussed with. Checking them constantly, trying different tips, all can actually work against getting a finicky baby going.

I'm sure the price was discounted, seeing as it was an unstarted baby. Maybe next time spend the extra few bucks and get one that's feeding consistently?

My .02, it hasn't been anywhere near a long enough time frame for Outback to be slapped with a bad guy thread on this one. Seems more like a case of someone getting in over their head. That's not Outback's fault.

hmmmm, there are some things that seem to be "off" in this post.
First off, I don't think a bad guy post is called for when the only thing you have is a hatchling bp that hasn't eaten yet.
Second, if you do indeed have experience with bp's, then there should be no need to make phone calls to receive advice. My grandmother knows that balls are finicky eaters and she has never owned a snake in her life.
Shane, you feel that Outback has sold you a sick snake. The only way to prove any of that is to take him to the vets. I am almost positive your vet will explain that he is just stressed right now and needs to be left alone. In due time he will eat.

I think it would be best if the original poster came on here and explained in more detail what is going on. A "friend" coming on here and explaining it isn't going to help the situation much, especially since he didn't actually go to the show and hear what the seller said. He only heard what the OP said, so why not have the OP explain it himself?

The buyer

has to assume the risk once he makes the purchase. All the information was given upfront, and no one twisted this guys arm into buying the snake.. The purchase was made in person, and the option of not buying was at the discretion of the buyer.. No one can guarantee whether a snake will eat in 2 weeks or 2 days..

Outback owes this person nothing. At these shows the terms should be buy at your own risk. Vendors come and go, and I do not see why they have to be straddled to a customer after the sale is consummated... If there is the slightest doubt in the quality of the animal...............donot buy.

But dont comeback with a bad guy post when you knew the risks before the purchase...

I know the OP contacted Outback Reptiles for feeding advice, but did he ask them for a refund? Or did he just come here thinking he's entitled to one and wanted to see if we would back him? I don't believe we'll hear from him again, though, just his friend that wasn't there but knows what was said. Yay.

This is what I was going to say. Did he ever talk to the seller about a refund or did he come directly here? Your first move it to contact the seller. If he refuses, you go from there.
I also feel only the buyer should be posting in this thread not my friend said or did this ect....

2 weeks is not near long enough to be getting your panties in a wad about a bp not eating.
I just placed an order with Outback, and so far they've been very upfront about the status of their animals...which some sellers don't even do or LIE about! Sounds like a case of buyer's remorse to me.
