In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Outback Reptiles

Is it just me (I might be counting wrong) or does the spots in the both of the dragons don't add up?

They're the same, without a doubt. Different angles on the pictures might make some of the spots seem to "blend" with each other differently, but you can still see patterns that match like a fingerprint.

First, I'm really sorry that the baby didn't make it for you. :(

However, if there is a problem with an animal shipped to you, you should have contact the seller as soon as you noticed the issue. I don't know why this should have even been a discussion. Assuming the worst about the seller is no reason to not contact them if an item purchased isn't received in the condition you expect. There are far too many 'good guy' threads on here for Outback to make the jump to "shady businessman".

Just my two pennies. :shrug01:

I agree that the buyer should have contacted the seller immediately on receipt of the animal. I would have been so angry, you couldn't have kept me off the phone....not for being "gyped" a few dollars, but simply for the sake of the poor monitor.

Regardless of that mistake on their part though, this is a legitimate thread. It may cast some shade of doubt on the severity of the condition the animal arrived in, but there is NO doubt that the critter should never have been sent in the first place. And while I respect a business's right to stick to their own TOS....I find it extremely disappointing when a respectable business HIDES behind that TOS rather than simply admitting that the animal should have not been sent and offer up a sincere apology. The buyer isn't even asking for money or a replacement. And for Josh (and Outback, by proxy) to completely ignore the problem due to a mere technicality of timing says something important.

Yes, they have a lot of good guy comments...a ton of happy customers. And while that may give a nice buffer of consideration when it's his word against theirs....it's NOT a reason to excuse clear neglect. I've seen a number of very respectable businesses with tons of happy customers eventually crumble into a huge mess. Maybe they got too big to handle. Maybe the owner lost interest. Maybe outside personal issues grew too intrusive. Who knows? But when I see a GOOD business start getting multiple bad-guy threads, and always having some excuse about why it's not their fault and they don't have to deal with it......alarm bells start going off. It's my sincere wish that this is NOT the case with Outback or with Josh.

I'm not defending nor am I recommending that anyone do business with Outback. Being that I am local and in the area where Outback resides, I have attended many of the Manassas, Havre de Grace, and Hamburg shows where I have been able to see the animals in person and I have to say that I have seen healthy looking animals, and animals that looked to be very unhealthy, underweight and in poor shape in my honest opinion. I have inquired about snakes that they have had and even my brother owns a 0.1 Dumerils that he purchased from them.

The main reason I have not purchased from them nor have I recommended them is for the very fact that they seem like the "Wal- Mart" of the reptile market. They sell everything under the sun and for very low prices and in my opinion, you are getting what you pay for; sometimes you get lucky like others have mentioned, however many times you are not and you are put in a situation like the OP and others that I have come across having these experiences.

I have and will always deal with breeders, individuals with a certain specialty and focus on a certain reptile and not a "company" or "wholesaler" that is obviously in the market to sell in bulk for low prices no matter the quality or care taken in the goods, and in this instance, animals that they may have.

I wish the OP better luck in the future, however I will agree that there is a "learning experience" associated here in that now you know you made a mistake buying from Outback and won't make that same mistake again.

I'm not saying that this is not a legitimate thread. The animal does look in bad shape and if it was shipped in that condition then the buyer is due a refund or credit toward another monitor, IMO.

I'm questioning the assumption that the seller must be shady and then neglecting to contact anyone because of that assumption. I have never dealt directly with Outback so I can't comment from personal experience with them but just looking around at the threads here in the BOI that relate to Outback seems to show that this is not a shady business scamming unsuspecting customers. If the OP was concerned about a poor response or reaction that would be received if they contacted the seller, they could have checked here to confirm or dispel those assumptions before deciding it was a lost cause to call or email about the issue.

Personally, if I had received an animal in that condition, I would have made the SAME assumption (animals aren't shipped out like that!) and done nothing.
But I would also have warned other people about my experiences.

*Only if I had wanted some recompense would I have contacted them, immediately. Sometimes, it's not about the money.

You don't look at the thorax or abdomen of a reptile to assess hydration and emaciation status because, as we all know, they inhale air to inflate themselves, and since they don't have a diaphragm, therefore have a coelomic cavity instead of a peritoneal cavity like mammals, they are able to enlarge their abdomens as well as their chest to make themselves look larger if threatened. When an animal is ill, this is about all it can do with what little energy it has left to scare off predators. This makes it look like they are "plump". Therefore one must look at other body parts such as the tail, legs, arms, head, etc. The pictures when it was still alive shows the protruding vertebrae in the tail and protruding pelvic bones. As someone mentioned, when an animal dies, all air leaves its body and it looks like it would if it were not inflated.
