In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has any on had any luck keep 2 different species of monitor in the same encloses? I have a juvi Rough Neck and was thinking of putting something else, of the size? Just wondering if any one had done this or if any one had any suggestions of different breeds to try.

Thanks

I don't know about monitors in particular, but I was always against putting 2 different species of reptile in the same enclosure, for various reasons. The biggest reason is, if 2 species are from 2 different regions, similar ecological conditions, but different regions, ie, tropical and the amazon vs the congo.

Each species will have its own variety of micro-organisms that it is used to, or that it benefits from. And if they happen to spread to each other, the effects could be very adverse.

Then there is the possibility of aggression, one being a more dominant species and potentially hurting the other. Even if no aggression is shown at first, think of how one day your monitor might be fine with handling, but the next its first response is to puff up, hiss, tail whip, and bite you if you don't get the message.

It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I wouldn't do it with any reptile, let alone monitors. Varanids are a whole different ball game than beardies and geckos. I've never had one, probably for that reason. I never felt I was ready until now, and currently I'm deciding which kind it is I'd like to purchase.

Best of luck with whatever you do, but for the sake of the animals I wouldn't recommend it.

As already stated never mix species. Just as said above one species can carry a disease that wouldn't harm it but the other species that gets it will kill it quickly. Not to mention differing species can and more often then not DO have different requirements.
Roughnecks actually have little quarks about them care wise that another species may not be so keen on.
Even at that the varying of temperaments can cause fights.

Best to leave them by themselves.

Thanks You Guys, that is pretty much what I figured But just wanted to get a few more opinions I will just look for another rough neck to keep he with

Even the same species is dicy. You have to be very careful in putting two monitors together. They can suddenly decide that they dislike each other and BAM! you have maimed or dead monitors.

I wouldn't mix species at all, and you might want to be prepared to have seperate enclosures if they won't get along. Two males will fight, two females may fight, a pair may fight. And they don't play around.

I took about 2 months of every day working with my blackthroats before they were put in the same enclosure. I still see the occasional agression.
