    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I was told about this and have tried it twice in the last two years with 100% results. So here is my third attempt. ( het lav x het lav ) She has been off feed for about a month, not long I know. She may not even go this year, it's just the theory i'm testing at the moment. I figure if this works 3 out of 3 times there must be something to it. Plus I just love the color of the male in this pairing so i had to post a pic somewhere :p ( Thanks again Bob ) Has anyone else had good results using this method?

I've tried it on a couple of females that got close to making weight and had success getting them to eat after pairing, but I haven't paired snakes smaller than 1300 grams with this method.

I really prefer they are eating well before pairing, we just got a clutch with 2 boob eggs from the only female that didn't eat well before ovulating. We tried this method with her and alas she never ate worth a crap all season and now guess what? clutch of 5 with 2 little BOOB eggs :(
 
Yeah I wouldn't do this to a female that is smaller because a lot of my females go off feed when they start pairing. Some of my bigger girls will eat all the way up to ovulation but its just not something to risk if your on the line. Thats a good pairing though, my het lavender girl is hugging the water bowl right now so I'm hoping to get a clutch early! Good luck.
 
If I learned anything this year it's 1,500 g is not a sure sign you will get a clutch. I'm not trying to push these two for a clutch. Both in this pairing are 1,100 + g right now and will not be paired again until they are ready to breed. As I stated it is more to test this theory once again. As far as the last two times this was attempted first was a norm female over 2,000 g, second was a 1,500 g female pied about 3 weeks ago. they were all 3 already off feed, The 2,000 g female for over 3 months when I was told of this. If all goes well and as I hope she will start back feeding and probably won't be paired again till 2013.
 
I wouldn't wait till 2013 but thats just me, lavenders are too amazing to wait that long. If she went back on feed you could have her over 1500 grams in the next couple months and get a small clutch thats what I'm doing with my girl. She is around 1300 grams and she feeds on medium frozen thawed so I plan to breed her this fall and get an early clutch. Maybe its just me but I want to prove those genetics and I want to do it now LOL. Good luck with her though.
 
This past season I had a young 1,500 g pied, a young 1,500 gram het pied, and a 1,500 g spider proven by me the year before, all 3 ultrasounded for follicles and all 3 absorbed them. I've heard of people breeding young 1,500 g females and also breeding back to back years, but both proved not to work for me. Not sure if I want to try it again. All it acomplished was to get the females to go off food for several months. Anyone with some positive experiences that might change my mind pleaese share.

I've done it with females over 3 years old with mixed results. Works on some, fails on some. I usually let the females take their own time growing. However, if a female, or male for that matter, hasn't put on any significant weight, and goes off feed every breeding season then I would risk seeing if "nature" will spark that mating/breeding instinct...where they (females) will start eating in preparation for breeding, and males will "bulk" up to make themselves more attractive to the opposite sex...

If it worked, fine. If not, she/he was phrased out to someone as a pet or put on the back burner.
 
Today was the first time I tried feeding her since the lock. I dropped in a small rat and let her be for about 20 mins and went back with the camera in case she was eating. She already had it devoured. 3 for 3. Must be something to it.
