In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just bought a panther from the panther company for 325 shipped and i thought i was getting a good deal,,BUT i should of known ,,I CANT EVEN PUT MY HAND IN THE CAGE WITHOUT GETTING CHOMPED ON.. This has to be the MEANEST CHAMELEON I HAVE EVER CAME ACROSS..

I have emailed them and surprise no return emails

I would NEVER DEAL with them AGAIN ~~~

Seriously you got a mean chameleon so that makes him a bad guy. Are you kidding me? How many Chameleons have you been around? I have had panthers that hiss at me just for walking in the room and others that chase me out of their cage every time you try to do anything. Their temperaments can change in a hurry and being put into a box and shipped to a new "home" can make them mean as hell until they settle in. First Panther I bought at a show bit me from the moment I picked him up until I got him to my car and into the transport cage. He proceeded to attack me every time I went into his cage for the next 6 months he finally tolerates me now but its been 3 years.

I have done multiple deals with Josh and never had a problem and will do business with him again. You need to let your chameleon settle in and hope he mellows out.

Perhaps your hands are simply delicious to an irresistible degree.

Do find that folks randomly start sucking on your fingers as you ride the bus, Steve "Candy Hands" Field?

Seriously though. Are you off your rocker? So your chameleon, a REPTILE, doesn't like you. Get over it. It certainly doesn't warrant a bad guy thread. If anything, thanks for teaching us all who never to sell a reptile to.

Chameleons are NOT a handling animal! If you don't know this, you shouldn't have one.

Treat them like tropical fish. Observe but don't handle.

Stress is the number one killer of chameleons.

I bought a large amount of chameleons from them a few months ago and two of the females had issues due to stress. They promptly refunded me and upheld their 10 day health guarantee, which is more than offered by most people.

Unless your chameleon was specifically stated to be tame, friendly, and so forth I see no reason for them to be liable for a chameleon to have a good temperament. Even then there can never be a guarantee like the other person stated previously they can be stressed just from shipping, and stress can easily lead to death in chameleons.

I do agree that their communication is not their strong point at times, but they are more than willing to stand behind their animals and even offered to have me call to discuss the problems I was having with their caretaker.

Buying a chameleon is not the same as buying a puppy or dog, perhaps those animals would suit you better.

All other snide posts aside ... chameleons, by their very nature, are not friendly "pets" that enjoy the company of humans or other species occupying or intruding into their personal space. Their arboreal nature should certainly be a clue to that fact.

Chams are one of those reptiles that have very specific needs and husbandry requirements, are extremely sensitive to change and intrusion into their habitats, and are a (as pointed out) a look-but-don't-mess-with reptile. They stress easily and do not usually display life-threatening problems until it's too late.

Chameleons are not for novice reptile enthusiasts or keepers. A cranky cham, an onery cham, is the norm for the species and more often would be an indicator of a healthy, normal chameleon. You got a cranky cham, you likely have a healthy one, unless it's limbs are bowed, eye turrets shrunk, and excremement an unhealthy yellow. It's the lethargic, unreactive chameleon that would trigger alarm in a seasoned keeper.

Please just give your Panther some space, some privacy and don't try to make him your best friend; don't expect to be able to handle him or carry him around like a trophy animal. It ain't gonna happen.

Research of any animal prior to purchase is always the best bet to be sure you know their nature & husbandry requirements, and if they will suit your lifestyle and wallet.

This is an odd interaction, but I guess we're making it public, so here's the whole thread (started with my recent, admittedly delayed response):

Hi Steve,

I apologize for the nonresponse. I honestly took the part about "was he always mean?" to be humor. As you probably know, as a prey animal, panther chameleons are typically stressed by human interaction, and many respond aggressively to that stress. That is why whenever we have an animal that is particularly "friendly", and seems more curious about humans than stressed by them, we call it out.

We did not make any attempt to tame him by forcing interaction. If you thought you were buying a tame animal that you can handle, and do not want one that reacts aggressively towards you, we will take him back and give you a refund.

Josh

This just turned into a really good guy thread...Panther Company is offering a refund for a healthy chameleon that went to an ignorant owner due to the fact that they didn't do their research. NOT Panther Company's fault, clearly.

But also, maybe the chameleon just has a good judge of character? lol

Did you notice as well that Panther Company was nice enough to hold this particular critter until payment was made?
And what a courteous letter with an offer of a refund from Josh.

Wow seriously? You just made it on to everyone's do not sell list and made yourself look like an immature child. Lets put you in a box that gets tossed about and shipped however far it was and see how friendly you are. Its like saying you bought a boa and want a refund because it bit you when you opened the cage. Reptiles bite and are unpredictable, the animal can change its tempermant for dozens of reasons that just how they are.

You should find another hobby, you have no business in this one. I cant believe people are being as nice as they are, I have seen far worse on VALID posts. Your post is ridiculous and did nothing but make you look childish and ridiculous. Please return the poor cham and stay away from any animal that would depend on you for care.

You have GOT to be kidding me.....
