In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Passing of Steve Irwin

I read were his is only the 3rd confirmed death to a stingray barb in Australia.
Freak accident to say the least.
I really liked his show, and thought he was a great champion for the cause of the reptile world as well as nature in general.
RIP.

Tasteless and idiotic title. Even if you're so jealous of the guy. He had a wife and two children, plus he was a great person. Regardless of whether you thought he was careless with his snake handling, or whatever, he showed and educated a lot of people the world of reptiles we all love. Great conservationist, energetic, animal loving character. In fact, seeing as how there was a post made about this incident within about an hour before you made this one, I think you went "out of your way" to be able to make your own thread so you could use your little "funny" title. It's obvious that sometimes the wrong one's are taken, the irony of death, sigh.

R.I.P. Steve, and my condolences to Terri and the kids.

I highly agree, those were the wrong words to use.

I heard on the news this morning that he did die pretty fast so at least he was not in to much pain for to long. It's hard to bleave that this happen. This is very sad. I really hope they try to keep the zoo open, he worked his hole life for that zoo.

It seems like Terri knew enough about day to day management (the business side) of the zoo, and he had a lot of staff there who were very experienced in care of the critters. I think the zoo will make it.

On a side note, the Discovery Channel is considering making a memorial fund in Steve's honor that would support both the zoo and other conservation efforts being made worldwide.

Here is the link!

"DCI is looking at the creation of the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, which we'll affectionately call "The Crikey Fund" to honor Steve's passion and exuberance for conservation and the animal kingdom. This fund will allow people from across the globe to make contributions in Steve's honor to support wildlife protection, education and conservation. The fund in addition to contributions by DCI will also aid Steve's Australia Zoo in Breewah, Australia as well as educational support for Bindi and Bob Irwin. "

Yes it is a bad title forr steve. I agree with John in saying R.I P. and thanking him for his work in not only the herp world but all animals that he worked with. One day down the road maybe we will have the Robert Inrin croc show or Bendi Sue show who knows.RON

I know that some people didn't like Steve Irwin, but I really dont care what other people think. I think he was one of the greatest. His love for animals was one that I have not seen from anyone else. He worked hard to save all kinds of animals. I always told my wife that I would love to meet Steve one day, but now that will never happen, and it sucks. My love and respect goes out to Steve and his family. As far as those that can not show respect for a great man, it just shows how ignorant you really are!!

(Steve Irwin bit the dust)-- This is very distasteful and shows no respect, grow up!!!

The title of this thread is very poor taste.
Steve was great! I saw him (on the telly) jump in with the big croc he had at his zoo to save his buddy who was being munched on! This was at night, pitch black, they were cleaning a fence in an enclosure in a heavy rain to prevent flooding, and the big croc.(forgot his name) grabbed his buddy! Steve jumped in the water on the croc , and the croc. let go of his buddy who sustained a bad bite on his leg..I do not care for some of his antics, (kinda silly), but this showed me what kind of a heart this man had, he was "real". My son and I will miss him terribly!
""Steve-O" Rest in peace

You can't please everybody, but the man was infectiously entertaining with reptiles, the living example of being "always a kid at heart", and did more to advance the acceptance of reptiles than any person who ever lived. Love him ... dislike him ... what a man of accomplishment in his short 44 years ! We all have benefited because of his life. Rejoice that he will be so dearly missed, as it is a testimony to all that he accomplished ! And aspire to be so missed when our time comes.

I was numbed to read the headlines.
Steve Irwin was extremely important in the fact that there is no way to know how many countless amounts of viewers he reached and possibly got interested in herps. Think about it. I bet there is a huge amount of people now that have seen, thru the fun way Steve portrayed them, how reptiles really are and how many myths about them are simply untrue.

He was a passionate guy about animals and that is what I really liked about him. It seemed that no matter what the animal was that he was showing or talking about, he made it seem like it was the most important animal on earth with his excitement and descriptive portrayal.

RIP Steve!!!

Steve did more to help the herp community than many people realize. I can only assume from the title that you, Morgan, didn't care for the man. At least respect him enough in death to not belittle him with your stupid title. Oh, did you predict this and now have to toot your own horn. Damn, your so cool. NOT!!!!!! (If you haven't figured it out yet, I am in the anger stage of grieving and apologize to everyone for this rant except the turd that titled this post)

Hey, in defense of Morgan. Yes, the thread starter was a bit blunt. But his follow-up post (#3 I think) indicates respect for Steve. Its a bummer for all, but its because the man was so good at what he did, and reached so many. We all grieve for the family, but at the same time, Steve's persona was so large that he will live on in their hearts as an influence of pride and respect until their own demise, hopefully many moons from now. In passing, he is still to be rejoiced.

DCI has lost a cherished member of our family. I am taken back by the title of this thread as well.
This morning I was sent a voicemail that DCI will be erecting a permanent fixture at our corporate offices in memorial for Mr. Irwin. There will be a fund in place as well.

This will be the first and last time that I will mention on Fauna my employment with DCI. My views on this forum or any other are my personal views and relate to my own personnel business ventures not that of DCI.

With that, The title of this thread and some of the comments posted are an extreme poor taste.

Dennis an Others,
The marriage of Steve and DCI in 1992 was a marriage made in reptile heaven! We'll be talking about this guy 20 years from now (50 years for you young'uns).

Steve Irwin...

In my time on this earth (a whopping 28 years) I've seen my share of celebrities, icons, world leaders, and all manner of other public personas pass on. Lucille Ball, Kurt Cobain, Ronald Reagan, Christopher Reeve...and the list goes on. None, and I mean NONE of them have made me feel as empty, upset, sad, and concerned as the loss of Steve Irwin. Did he play things up a bit for the cameras? Maybe. Did he put his child in danger by holding him while he fed a croc? I don't think so. What he did, however, was inspire a generation (or two) into reliving their childhood, their proudest moments, and reshaped the public paradigm concerning reptiles. Honestly, he made watching nature/wildlife programs fun to watch again.

Did I get tired of his inflated Aussie accent? Sometimes...but I will never be tired of hearing his voice on TV as he gets so excited and enthusiastic about the animals that this community holds dear, and that the majority of the TV-watching public scorns. I'll miss him. There will never be another like him, and I hope there never will be.

Rest in peace, Steve, and best wishes to your family and friends as they (and we) mourn the loss of a great man.

I find it ironic that he dealt with some of the deadliest herps, and none of which killed him, but he died due to a fish.

I too am very sad for his death, but how many people truely get to die doing something that they love?

lets not think of him as dead, but as him no longer being here personally he has touched way to many to actually be 100% dead and forgotton.

As my family and I sit here tonight with tears in our eyes, watching some of our favorite Croc re-runs, it is only beginning to hit me of our loss. I have never been so touched on a personnel level over the death of a celebrity. Steve was a passionate man about the animals and people he loved. Like him or not; he never pretended, he was who he was. Those without a voice have lost one of their most outspoken defenders. It is easy for us to understand how one can be so devoted to such animals; but he helped share this love with other less enthusiastic viewers and send a message of conservation for all animals. Thanks Steve for sharing your life, love, family and you passions with us!

Well said Dennis. I couldn't agree with you more!!!!

RIP STEVE IRWIN

Morgan,
Maybe it doesn't matter a hill of beans, but if you make a post here, requesting that the "powers that be" change your thread-starting-title to somehting more appropriate, I have it on higher authority that it will be done,, but the request must come from you. I know you have it in you to do so, and in some small way, it will matter to us all. Please do it, and you decide the new title. As a starter "Steve, R.I.P." We all loved this guy, and owe him beyond our ability to repay. Thank you.

Tribute to Steve Irwin

I still can't bleve this happen. I'v been watching him since I was 4 years old, so I have grown up with him. I'v seen ever show that he has done. It really feels like I have lost a very, very close friend of mine and an idol.

There was some people that did not like him becues his 'hands on' aproch on thing's. But even they can't say that he was not a GOD in the herp world. He really opend up millions of millions of people around the world to reptiles. 'From hey look at that ugly snake to Hey look at what a beautful animal this is'. He was very passionate, and all he wanted to do was to educat the world on what he loved to do. And he did a dam good Job in my opinion. In the words of Steve ( My job, My mission, the reason I was put on this planet is to save wildlife, and I thank you for coming with me.) That one alwas brings a few try to my eye's.

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

He may have past away, but his spirit will live with us all.

You will not be forgotton my good friend.

R.I.P. STEVE IRWIN

Title was changed out of respect for the Irwin family.
