In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Pat Kane of Kane Zoological ... BAD GUY TO DO BUSINESS WITH!!!

Phone Conversation with Rowdy

Ok, I just got off the telephone with Rowdy.

We are going to come to some agreement, as I do still have the scorpion bodies here right now.

It was not that I did not want to fix the problem its that Rowdy was demanding the full $115, that would be paying for the whole amount of scorpions when a good amount of them came in DOA.

I did not see Rowdy's last post previous to calling him on the telephone, and I must admit, Rowdy did calm down rather quickly as when I initiated the conversation I was rather agitated...

I will be more than happy to figure something out with Rowdy and end this on a good note, I do not rip people off, but I also do not pay for items not recieved or not recieved in the correct shape. I have already had to take a bath with many other companies.

That is the bottom line, well hopefully this thread will calm down a bit now...and we can all relax....

*sigh*

O.K., I want to say first off that I'm not mad at Pat Kane anymore. it was such a long time ago (a year?) that it's no longer relevant to me. one thing though that I got out of my dealings with Pat is that I knew I would never do business with Pat Kane again. I did finalize that order with you Pat, there were numerous T's that I can name off if needed, and if it weren't finalized on your end that's not my problem. you specifically told me time and time again that they were going to be there "tommorow." I was ready for them, I was expecting them, I had no reason to believe that they were not going to be there. you said I never have dealt with Reptilian Haven; are we talking about the same one? I am known at Reptilian Haven for having sold them things from time to time, they are not a large buyer of my stock though and I haven't sold anything recently to them. my main buyers are exotic pet shops in my area and personal collectors, Reptilian Haven is not in my area, therefore they are not a large consumer of my goods.
it is irrelevant though, your name has been dirtied and your reputation a laughing stock, so it is easy to see why you would not like to drag someone down with you. I am merely dissapointed that you choose me to do so, I told you before I bare you no ill will. you made some mistakes, some people think you should be punished for them, I am one of those people.
the point is that you didn't do, time and time again, what you promised to do, that is where a real man shines through. I may not be openly saying that "you're going down!" but I still would not reccomend you to anyone. I think that such talk is idiocy, I respect collectors and my fellow businessmen that have posted on this forum, but this is not the place for such infantile attacks; this is a place for discussion, if you wish to scream at each other feel free to do so on the phone or in e-mails.
Pat, you were well known before you went downhill, meaning that you are good at acquiring a reputation, your latest perfomances though merit your bad reputation today. I am confident that if you were to try and regain your good name you could do so in time. however, it would still be a while before I, and others I have talked to that have been ripped off by Kane Zoological, would buy from you again. where are the people that were scammed by you? you have met only a handful, I'm sure that if all who have dealt with you were to post on this forum you would have much more crap on your hands then just us few. if you were known for good business practices and quality you would not have earned your reputation as it stands today.
I am not going to do anything legal-wise, I think it's not worth my time and that you seem to have enough on your hands at the moment anyway. I will simply ask you to ask yourself if you want to grow up and mature with this kind of background, and what would you do about it to rectify the problem? you have proven yourself to be capable of operating a business, but in the future you must remember not to get ahead of yourself. I have been at this hobby for years, a businessman for years, and I am still not very well known. to me you seem to have gotten ahead of yourself and suddenly jumped into large invertebrate transactions and now you have gotten burned by it.
for this forum though I cannot emphasize enough how the topic is on you, and not anyone else. we are discussing your business and your standards, there is no need to bring others into it to pass the blame or to make a scene for another person. I offer you this advice: rectify your problem now, quickly, without excuses, delays, or anymore B.S., and you will come out with little more than your pride hurt.
for you others though that want to simply rip Pat's head off, I said before that this is a place of discussion, not of violence and abuse. obstain from remarks that would be unbecoming of you and remember that we have all made mistakes before.

Hey Joe, have you ever heard the saying "what comes around goes around"? Or how about "You reap what you sew"? Or how about KARMA!!!!!? You are asking a question of Pat that can easily be answered by your own dealings. "did i do somthing to deserve this". IS that meant to provide us with some comic relief?

You are a very confused individual Joe.

My take

It just seems that Pat has learned from the best.

thanks for being a thorn in the side of everyone who deals eith reptiles or inverts in New England

Tony's input

Well
Interesting stuff, though I will say I skimmed alot of the larger posts.
My dealings in the past with Pat have bee from great to poor. Mostly in the middle, and until end of 03 all were finished satisfactorily. In sept I placed a $450 order which of course never came. There was an agreed $40 previous doa/missing balance in my favor, $490 then. Point is I dont truly believe Pat is dishonest, but I do wonder if he can satisfy all his debt.
And I do believe him when he says he has all this Accounts receivable he is getting screwed on. I was there when his debt to Joe was rotated onto xxxx vendors shoulders to satisfy part of xxxx's debt to Pat. XXXX also was to send me money but i never got it.. XXXX is a good guy, but he has verifiedly ordered from Pat on credit w.o paying to give hime a 'taste of his medicine.' Pat has also told me of other arachnid people owing him money and the general gist of conversations i have had with them is 'F*** em, he's a kid, I aint paying'. So in effect we are suffering from Pat's misforutune of having been yanked by his customers as well, and ultimately I lay some of the blame on them. They know who they are. Specifacally the $300 Pat, from certain someone , was acknowledged and laughed off. I have been waiting since Sept 03, unemployed since Nov, new kid 5 weeks ago, so I am pretty much as unhappy as the rest of you.
Just sorry to see it end this way

Money owed

As indicated in this thread, I've had several dealings with Pat. Some went well, some did not. Eventually Pat made good on everything and I opted to quit doing business with him. Botar by Eights is not one of the companies that owes Pat money and Pat doesn't owe me any money.

Aside from clarifying that issue, I will remain silent. Seems there are several people with a lot to say on the issue.

That kind of response if stupid, sorry. I have known Pat for 3 years (help me out Pat). Yes things are pretty much screwed, and I am sorry it is turning out like this. Again I dont think he's been out to rip people off, but his naivete coupled with poor business practices and misplaced trust have created quite a quagmire.

By the way he was swinging deals and following though on stuff in a most professional manner back when he was 13, which I assume to you would be an age when he was still nursing?

T

Well if thats supposed to be funny, work on it. Other than that you dont know me so $$$ off basically. The kids sends me money, his parents are ok with it, I send him stuff. I guess no one in Herp world over here ever ever deals with a minor? Then he sells me stuff. it goes from there. I wonder if you were as capable at 13 as he used to be. But thats all done with now anyway.

I do not know Pat personally other than seeing him at shows when he worked for Regal. I have a pet store also and from reading his posts it is easy to see why he is having trouble- basic business practices,
1. Don't buy anything you can't pay for
2. Don't let anything go out the door unless it has been paid for!
3. minimize risks

If I order reptiles I pay for them at the time I place the order with either a credit or debit card - no COD, and by the same token if someone is buying from me it is paid for before it ships or goes out the door I don't trust anyone with COD or checks- credit, debit, paypal only!!! - Presto , no problems like these, this part just boggles my mind!IMHO, if you sent/gave him animals without getting payment first that was sort of a gamble on your part....:

>>>> how about three weeks ago I sent an Invertebrate company in the Midwest an order for about $300 worth, he was supposed to pay after a trade show, well I owed someone attending the show some centipedes so I had him give him 5 centipedes, the owner charged me $30 a centipede off of the bill (very high price for the centipedes), so he still owed me $150, he was supposed to send that to a friend of mine I owe a few hundred too (one of the people I spoke of before), he never did, he lied or said the check came back to him weeks later... about sending out a check so I sent him another order, $450 worth this time....so now he owes me close to $600.00 and Tony my friend has recieved nothing...so here I am again in this postion, he calls me, asks me to send him more inventory but promises he'll pay the balance off as soon as he gets the order, I told him I would do it reluctantly <<<<

Second, if you are a fledgling pet store I don't think these are the types of animals you should risk your money on (mostly likely all WC imports? Thats a lot of money to lose on dead animals, emeralds, yellow foots, Uros all too risky in my book unless CBB from a responsible breeder-

>>>> One solomen Island boa died, two of the Emerald Tree Boa's died, I lost the majority of the uromastyx, possibly from poor quality, when they died they had sand in their mouths, so I don't know if they were eating the sand by mistake and that casued their death. One of the yellow fotos was missing on eye, and it died. One of the redfoots the smaller one died about three weeks after the order arrived... <<<<<

But working at Regal all those years he probably had trouble "thinking small" at first, used to seeing alll the stuff and quantity Regal receives, the wheeling and dealing, the way they deal with importers etc. may have caused him to make some bad decisions... Running your own business especially retail is a lot tougher than it first seems, rent, utilities, taxes, livestock losses, credit card proccesiing fees, accounting , inventory , liscences - stuff you never even stopped to think about (like a $500 plumbing bill last week) blah, blah, blah not something to jump into quickly or without a good plan and guidance....

Valerie Lane just sent me this email, via my website. Why I recieved it I do not know. But I thought I should post it.

We sold a large collection of exotic animals to Kane Zoological, in which Pat Kane did not pay us. We have left numerous messages on a cell phone, as his business numbers have been disconnected since we shipped our animals to him. We have never heard back from him. He took us for $2000.00 on a valued $8000.00 collection. We have spoken with others and would like to send a warning out for those of you wanting to do business with Pat Kane, Kane Zoological, Kane Zoological, Inc. or Kane Corp. We are now among MANY who he owes money to and the authorities would like any information anyone has about their dealings with the company, etc..
>Please contact us at [email protected]

All information provided will be forwarded to the Rhode Island State Department of Agriculture. Please include a contact name, phone number and brief detail of your dealings with this 17 year old.

Thank you

I received the same email to two of my business email accounts.

Pat Kane's age

It wasn't until we didn't receive our money that we started calling around. Pat told me he was in business with Regal Reptiles, I called them trying to get a hold of Pat (because his business #'s are now disconnected and he won't answer his cell phone or return my messages.) It was the owner and an employee who told me how old Pat was. When we tried to get a hold of him about shipping the animals it took a day for him to call back...he told us he was on a field trip with his kidnergardner. I have heard from many that he used stolen credit cards to make purchases, wrote bad checks or, like us, just didn't pay.

I apologize, but anybody who is "swinging business deals" with a 13 year old needs their head checked.

David, Pat told me that he was over 18 over a year ago. We don't need our heads examined because we get lied to. It was not until I spoke to his mother that I found out that he is 16 (Yes, 16, not 13). 13, 16, or 18, wrong is wrong!
