In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! I am considering purchasing a Burmese Black Mountain tortoise from Pat Sewyer and having never dealt with him before am checking to see if anyone on this forum has dealt with or purchased from him. Any feedback would be appreciated. Slainte' Ruth

Hi Ruth -
Any other identifying information? Pat Sewyer from: location?, company name? saw his/her ad on?
Might help spark someone's help... good luck!

I noticed that as well. Ruth

That should instantly give you some serious pause i.e. red flag.
Members are only allowed:
1. To sell using their full legal name
2. Not sell for other individuals (especially those who are not members or who have been banned).

Do you have any correspondence you can post regarding a "Pat" using this account? Thanks Ruth.

Here is the response i received when i asked who Pat Sewyer was.

That gibberish alone would probably raise some red flags with me. If someone can't express themselves with some degree of clarity, I tend to take it more seriously than most would.

Did you use the site's built-in email function to send an email to the seller, to which you received the quoted reply; or was that message received unsolicited? It kinda looks like what Dan Costello used to do: lurk ads waiting for someone to express interest so he could swoop in and pretend to be the person who posted the ad.

Well i am learning a few things here. I posted my email address in my reply to the advertisement which i will never do again. The first email i received from this person contained his paypal account which i could send the money to.

Bingo
(side note for readers, Dan Costello is deceased, so this can't be him any longer. This can serve as a warning of why you should use Fauna's Private Message system vs. posting your email)

Thanks everyone for your help. It really is sad that scammers exist and prey upon the public. I have been on this forum for many years and purchased many reptiles without any incidents, sadly this is the first time i have experienced this type of behavior. Since the individual who attempted to steal from me gave me his paypal address i did report it to paypal. Not sure if anything can or will be done but at least the information is out there. Again, really appreciated the help. Ruth
