    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I don't know how many other people get this..... On occasion I have someone who will e-mail me a nasty message in regards to an add. Most of the time people will simply state their opinion or ask questions. However, sometimes I get e-mails with obvious fake address's. They are usually nasty and are not returnable. This is very irritating to find that they have the time to state their opinions but hide behind a fake e-mail. I will debate with the best of them and have no problem with discussing any issue with anyone. Anyway, I posted an add in regards to a pair of redbelly turtles that were born conjoined. I received this e-mail....
"Maybe ifr you paid me 500.00 I'd take those poor things off your hands. It's a tragic thing and your out to make a buck. Niiiice
The e-mail [email protected] I guess that explains some of it? First and formost I agree that it is tragic! However, does this mean that it is not a life and should be put down? I believe everything has a right to live. Well some people.... First this was not produced by us. It was offered to us because the person who has it understands we can provide proper care for the specimen. They however, want cash..... We would like to have the specimen and provide a home for it. Funds just are not available at this time. Hmmm??? What should we do that would be in the interest of the animal. One answer! Find it a home even if it is not with us. Here we also run into a debate.... If the specimen were offered for free i'm sure that a load of people would be breaking down the door. Many people for the wrong reasons. Many would not have the experience or ability to care for it. Ask yourself how many people provide proper care for inexpensive baby turtles? Now... if it were a specimen that was worth something monetarily or rare they would spare no expense in it's care and needs. It might sound bad but, it seems to be human nature. If we can cover the cost of the specimen and provide a good home it's gone. Even if nothing is made on it.So there's a dilema... Also, this is not the first time that two headed or conjoined reptiles were produced... Several facilities have them on display. Many with wonderful habitats and the best of care. How did they get them ? Many bought them. If this were a specimen that was produced here or if we had the extra funds to
put aside for them they would have a permanent home with us for the rest of their lives. It's almost like your the devil either way
you play it. I guess I was getting at two points.... The person who makes their convictions but, can't give me a valid e-mail to discuss it and the ethics of the turtle....????? Two sides to everything and many different opinions. As long as the animal wins in the long run that's the most important thing! I'm sure that I could have made my point clearer if I took the time to think this response out better. This was just off the cuff so to speak. We all know that when we are P.O.'ed that we do not make our point properly so I hope this helps to explain things a little.
 
Its probably just kids messing around. I sometimes email a particular breeder about trades or buying something and one time I offered some leopard geckos as a trade and he said something like: Ill give you two dollars for all of them so I can feed them to my animals.

Before that I asked him how much his helmeted geckos were, this is what I got back: Not as cheap as J. Stacy Yankee's

Why would they just give up a sale like that?

Yeah, I don't get people sometimes either. I had a person e-mail me about a trade. They had a 100% het for albino ball python for sale and wanted some Emeralds... I asked for any proof of the "het" or a paperwork trail, they said it was their uncle that bred it and that I was a such and such for not trusting them??? Who knows? Thanks Ray HBR
 
If someone jumps on you about not trusting them in their second email they are definitely not trustworthy. Ive emailed you about some trades Ray, I was worried you were going to say something I did, but its not since I dont keep any ball pythons!

Yeah, sometimes i'm a little slow about getting back to people on trades. When someone offers cash of course everyone is quick to respond! On trades I have to consider how long it would take to move the specimens i'm trading for value etc. Therefore, I try to be much more careful. No problem with you as far as the thread. It was sarted just because some people like to do so called "drive by criticism". They can be nasty, rude, and plain A-holes and not have to stand up to that person or take a shot back. I'm sure a few of them are young kids but some i've been able to track and were adults who simply act like children! LOL IHowever, I hope this does not deter anyone from stating their opinion when something is wrong or they have a strong belief. Just simply be a "man" and "stand up" when you do it. Thanks Ray HBR
 
I always feel weird after talking to someone for awhile about getting an animal and then asking them for references. It feels like you know them already, their name, their age maybe, where they live, and most of the times it feels like you can trust them, but you can never be too cautious, so I always feel strange asking for them. If they provide references with no questions asked though, i dont even check the references because they are clearly not trying to hide anything.

Yes If I had dealt with a person previously or spoke with them on a regular basis of course I would not ask for references. I deal with many people on a daily basis that often do not make regular purchases. I have a number of people I purchase from sight un-seen. We even send to each other open account. However, this day and time you can't be too careful. If I don't know the person I will ask for references and paperwork on any hets. As a general rule I will not purchase a het. unless from Barkers, Clark, Sharpe etc. Anyway, the point I was making was that the reponse these people come up with is so disrespectful. When I asked for proof of the ball python being het. his reply should have been," It was produced by my uncle. I can have him foward photos of the adults as well as a notarized statement. If you are not sure of the genetics, I understand and understand why you have to decline the trade." At this time I would have seriously considered the offer. However, to say that it was "Bulls..." that I would not trust him. Oh well see yah! A little respect and courtesy go a long way.
 
Anyone that does not understand why you would ask for referrences or paperwork on a sale is either:

a) So bone-ignorant of the goings on in the herp industry as to likely be too ignorant to have produced what you are wanting to buy . . .

OR

b) Is a wannabe crook trying to hide something from you!

I have no patience for those who are trying to sell animals without the common courtesy, professionalism, and product knowledge it takes to be a good guy in this buisness. Hobbyists, newbies, accidental breeders? OK, I am will to extend the benefit of the doubt almost to infinity. But if you are advertizing as a business on KS, or wherever, you are operating in a different sphere, and you had BETTER be up to the task!

I was trying to point out the courtesy/professionalism part more than the fact that they should know why your asking. But you nailed it on the head. By the way I looked that ball python e-mail over. It was from piebaldpimp. No surprise there.

One of my most interesting conflicts had to do with a panther chameleon I posted. It was an adult male and I won't go into all the details but, to sum it up... He was pulled at night photographed in poor light and was stressing a bit. Very cheap camera on top of that! I got an e-mail from a person that was very nasty as to the health and condition of the animal! Even was accused of doctoring the pic! The person sent an anonymous e-mail... Kind of ticked me off. The exception to the rule.... he actually responded to my post when I asked him to stand up and talk to me in public. We went back and forth over the explanation and after we talked like decent herpers we found we knew each other. I had given him his first panthers to breed back in the 80's and we had been good friends for years! We lost track of each other. He had some insight as to new techniques which I took to heart... Also, he apologized and said sorry about jumping the gun! The amazing thing was that he even posted a retraction and apology and told everyone about my background! That is a real man!!!! His name is Brian Skinner. VERY good person. I haven't talked him in a while but, I know he's doing well!! (Even if you did jump the gun Brian LOL!!!!)It just shows his enthusiasum!!!! It see a few spell problems but it's late and at least most of my posts are close....LOL!
