    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

We petition the obama administration to:
crack down on puppy mills.

To prevent the suffering of dogs and puppies in puppy mills, will the President act to close the current regulatory loophole and require large-scale, commercial breeders who sell puppies online and directly to the public to be covered by USDA’s Animal Welfare Act regulations, including minimum standards for humane care and treatment? This will help to protect consumers from unknowingly buying sick puppies from inhumane facilities and help to eliminate the horrible conditions in large-scale puppy mills.

#1, you'd need to define "puppy mills". The term can be used for ANY breeder of any number of dogs.
#2 All owners of animals are covered under the Animal Welfare acts. It's completely false to say that larger breeders are not covered. They are.
#3 Since the laws already EXIST for standards of care, why not enforce the existing laws, instead of trying to pass more useless laws that will only impact the good breeders?

Petitions like these are often pushed by the AR extremists, hoping to have the general public jump onto the bandwagon without realizing it will not "prevent suffering" and that the original premise is completely false. They use junk language to pass restrictions that harm honest pet breeders instead of 'shutting down puppy mills'.

And by their language, anyone who breeds any animal falls under either "puppy mill" or "backyard breeder" without any good breeder ever. It's exactly the type of launguage and fallicies that the same groups use to villify all reptile owners as 'irresponsible attention seekers who are responsible for the giant snakes overruning the Everglades'.
 
This is a whole can of worms.

I think if consumers would stop buying puppies, getting rid of them at 7 months (when they stop being so cute and start tearing stuff up)
and
If consumers would spay/neuter their pets


Then we would not have to be petitioning the gummint to use our tax dollars this way.

You all know me, I love lil critters, but right now we are all in a world of trouble because of overspending and incompetence by the gummint, a national debt which is putting America out of business, and a gummint which is more and more trying to oversee and control every single thing we do, and make us pay for the doubtful pleasure of having Uncle Sam as our nanny.

This isn't directed your way, Donna, you know I like you, it is just a rant.

I want little puppies n kitties to have safe, comfy, loved lives. I just don't think Uncle Barack should be in charge of Fido n Fluffy. 'Sides, if he can't find jobs for us, how's he going to get a can of tuna for Fluffy?

Too bad the government can't send non-violent inmates in to work at the rescues and shelters to care for the animals, and to learn compassion, caring, and organization skills.

I still think it's a good idea to shut down the puppy mills and add teeth to our horribly lax animal cruelty laws.

Not to hijack this thread, but I believe that some folks in jail took a wrong turn, do their time, come out, and go on to have good, productive lives.

On the other hand, it appears from statistics that some want to stay bad guys and the only things they learn from incarceration are additional bad guy skills. And it isn't always easy to tell who is who. I mean, look at some of the choices some of us have made in friends and spouses/lovers along the way, and if we make mistakes, then anyone can make mistakes deciding who to trust.

Considering what some of them force others to do while incarcerated, I'm not sure I'd let them near any innocent animals. Might give a whole new meaning to their phrase 'I'm gonna make you my B'.

I understand you fears. I really didn't think about that, but with the right counseling and over-site, I think it could benefit many of the non-violent inmates, and just think of how the animals would benefit.

It wouldn't be a program for everyone.
