In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Pets & Such

Chargeback

Monica I sent you an email with a link to a site that gives a pretty good explanation of the chargeback procedure.

I called my bank at lunch and started the chargeback. The guy that was helping me was so shocked that they are being so reluctant to help us. He said "Oh don't worry ma'am we will get your money back for your little guy" it was really sweet.

update

Gooey went to a diagnostics lab today for an autopsy and labs. We didn't think to put him in the fridge early so he might not be a perfect autopsy specimen..

As long as he wasn't frozen there shouldn't be a problem.

Its always unfortunate to see someone receive an animal in poor health and under deceptive conditions, but a couple things popped into my head while reading this:

1. Was the $440 price tag for just the Tegu? (Apologies if that was covered and I missed it) If so, isn't this an exorbitantly large sum of money for such an animal? I'm pretty sure unless mistaken that you can purchase a Tegu directly from a breeder or someone reputable for roughly half that amount.

2. If it is known this is a pet shop, why bother giving them business in the first place? Every reptile show I've been to in the last 15+ years that had pet shops as vendors, they were almost always selling inferior or subpar quality animals when compared to the breeders/hobbyists around them.

I totally agree with David, it does sound overpriced for a tegu. After you get your money back, there are some good tegu sellers here. If you want, pm me for the name of one of them who has really impressed me, otherwise, just look for the guys with good feedback on the BOI.

I'm hoping the chargeback process goes relatively quickly for you, and that if it is in your plans, that you get another much healthier one soon.

The Tegu himself was $299 and the rest was supplies and tax. We are quickly finding out how many good breeders have tegus for better prices and who are healthier. We bought a dual lamp, uvb bulb, calcium and vitamin powder with him.

We weren't going to get another one super soon, but because of this post someone has contacted us about giving us one of her Tegu's. Her kindness and willingness to help us get another tegu who will be healthy and happy with us has made us so incredibly happy

That is awesome, I am so happy for you! Whoever she is, she is a wonderful person with a heart of gold. :)

That's what we are thinking.:exactly: I cried when I read it. I couldn't believe it. We just hope to give the little girl the home she deserves. She is adorable!

It is incredibly thoughtful, and generous, that someone is giving you a healthy tegu.
Such great news and I am happy for you!:)

I know! We are so extremely grateful! We will be compensating her as well. And updating her all the time so she can still watch her grow. We are overwhelmed with happiness at her graciousness and kindess.

Update

We got our new regulations today and I don't know if we could be more excited! She is adorable and perfect. Also the charge back went through except we need someone who sells tegus also to basically write a letter saying that we received poor quality. Here are pictures of her first meal here.

Good to see the great news!
That is a beautiful girl that you got. Can imagine your happiness to have her. :)

....

Yes :) now we just need the autopsy results so we can sue them and another pet shop or breeder to write the letter so I can keep the money. She's adorable!

Holy crap, what a beautiful tegu you now have!

When I saw that XR the first thing I saw was that broken tail, yikes... poor Gooey r.i.p.
Broken tail in 2x spots, and massive prolapse. And they have the nerve to say you "squished him or something". Like wtf? Give me a break.

Yeah and now they have the gall to lie to us and say we must have done something to cause the issues. "It's out of our hands, we sold you a healthy tegu" obviously not...

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows any tegu breeders, or pet shops that sell tegus that are willing to write a letter on their letter head saying "the tegu they received was bad quality". I have contacted 3 or 4 shops ( there are only 2 in Utah that do and one of them is the one that sold us ours.) and breeders and no one has gotten back to me. We need it for the charge back.

That is what a healthy tegu should look like.

I'm at a loss for your request, though. The credit card company is requiring this?

Have you asked the vet to write up an assessment of the condition the tegu was in, what was needed to address the issue, and what date they provided treatment? The date stamp on the purchase combined with the vet bill or a statement from the vet should be sufficient to put the pieces together... and avoid any breeder or pet store from being implicated for making an assessment on an animal they've never personally inspected.
