What with local sales tax and the price of gas, some of the time I just buy basic critter supplies online and come out ahead.
I found a 20L tank locally (a garage sale, $3) and wanted to outfit it for my gerbils since they kept kicking bedding out of the cage I had them in. So I bought a wheel, wire screen cover, water bottle and a some blue Carefresh bedding at Petstore.com and their prices are competitive with the big pet box stores.
It all arrived in a couple days, in 2 shipments, cost me I think a flat 6.99 for shipping for everything. The wire screen cover had gotten bent in shipping. I emailed them to let them know, and they are sending a new one out tomorrow at no charge. To me, that is great service.
btw, the gerbils love their new digs and are excited about the 3-4 inch layer of bedding, half corncob and half Carefresh. Within 15 minutes or so they had burrowed and kicked and flung it to the point that their home looks just like my kids rooms used to look
