In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Aaron,

I might help you out sometime if Cat can't.

A.D.

I could probably come up with some for you, Aaron. I'll try to remember to give you a shout the next time I'm headed up your way. :)

We have the same type of rack system as Bill and Amy for our ASFR. We purchased 2 trios in Nov and Dec 2006. Now we feed off 20-25 full adult and sub adults every week. I haven't noticed an extreme need to chew with these guys. We keep 1.2 in each tub and that seems to be the best ratio for breeding. We have tried 1.3 and 1.4 but they don't have enough room and beat each other up. We leave the babies with the moms for about 4 weeks before we take them out and move them into holding bins.

I have noticed our 3rd and 4th generation animals are not aggressive like the original trios were. Plus we get tired of getting bit and eventually we replace the nasty ones. So we may be breeding the aggressiveness out of them. Has anyone else noticed this in their breeding colonies?

I have some groups and have never been bitten. They are extremely cute lil critters too.

I could also come down your way to pick them up also Cat. I am laid off and have nothing better to do than make a small road trip of about an hour both ways ;) ..

I'm not in Jersey, but i'm only about an hour from Philly. I have some available. PM me.

What is the advantage of these over lab type rodents? Do they get bigger, grow faster or have more babies?

Thanks

Might not be a big deal to most people because they are allowed to keep lab rats but here in Alberta we are rat free. The rats have to be dead for them to be allowed in here. I dont know whats so different but ASF are allowed but not lab style rats. I live in an apt so I cant keep mice because of the stink and I need somthing that doesnt smell. ASF's fit that description.

sorry this is kinda late but i was bored and checking out some thread
asf rats dont have scent glands so because of that no stink also
the males will actually halp in raising the babies
