    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well I am finally back at college, hiding my snake under my dorm bed which is high enough to put the snake and several of my bins to hide it from the RA's a bit. Finally got my digital camera which i left here and here are two shots of my snake. I was told it was a brooksi, but after doing some research it seems to follow the color patterns of a cali king. I could be very wrong, any clarification?

Looks a lot like my floridana (I don't call them Brooks).... here's a picture of one of my year-old babies (he was hatched dec 5 '03). This one has a touch of red in the banding, the other two I have don't have any red.

I understand that floridana and brooks kings undergo an "ontogenetic" (or was that onCOgenetic) .... a color change as they mature. They can look quite drab as hatchlings and quite spactacular as adult animals. Since I've never worked with them much and only have 1.2 year-old floridana, and 1.1 hypo florida/eastern integrade hatchlings.

Very nice Sasheena. It is cool to know that I do have a Brooksi, so my user name isnt pointless afterall. My snake has a touch of red in the banding, and has a nice deep red showing in the black areas behind the head. Can't wait to see how the color develops as you were talking about. All i gotta do is stop thinking the lil guy always wants to bite me, i am slowly weening myself from the "its gonna bite" jitters. Thanks to the both of you for the information and know how. Wilomn thank you for the advice on the shedding, it definitey helped and my snake has completly shed.
 
LOL.....The worst part of getting bit is the thought of it. Once you get bit you think to yourself " I was all worried about THAT!" LOL
Honestly, Kingsnake bites aren't bad. They have VERY small teeth, and it feels more or less like little pinpricks. This little girl used to ALWAYS used to greet me with this stance (pic below). When I'd go to pick her up, she'd just watch me grab her and settled down after she was in my hand. Gotta love the "fiestyness" of the little ones!! :)

That's a Florida/Brooksi King

Nice snake you got there! I'm going to receiving a male 4 year old brooksi in a week! I'm quite excited. You can see the pic of him in the kingsnake classifieds towards the top. Gorgeous animal. I'll take more pics when I get him.
 
Baby snakes in attack mode are hilarious. Cal. kings are much worse that the Fla. ones though. They Cals. like to bite you, poop on the fresh bite, then wriggle all over to make sure the bite gets smeared.

Don't be intimidated by yours. Enjoy.
 
Yes you hit the nail on the head on this one! Cal king babies are the most hilarious babies in the universe, unless you count Apalachicola kings. My kingsnake Yertyl came out of the egg poised to strike and has continued like that to this day. Of course her bite has a little more power now that she's 17 months old! They think they're "All that" big and bad, ready to slay you and the rest of the universe! Funniest thing I ever saw!

But my floridana and my florida/eatern integrades are all "pussy cats" they NEVER get feisty. Though I've been holding them while dropping (or trying to) a pinkie rat in their cages and WHAM they can pick those out of thin air, wrap tight on my finger whilst also coiling the prey.... Good eating reflexes, but don't seem to care to eat the people around them.

Funny you should mention this.......this past weekends feeding I got bit by my 2 yr old Florida King (a little over 4 ft) Once in a while he'll act like he isn't interested in eating, but I can entice him to feed by moving the mouse/rat around. Well, this time he struck at the mouse and got my finger!! He released right away, but still drew a bit of blood.
He did have a short stint where he tried eating me though. I think he was about 24-36" at the time. Here's one occassion he tried me on for size.....

haha, funny picture. So what did you have to force the snake to stop or did it quit on its own?
 
I use the warm water method when they don't want to let go. Just get a small tub of WARM (to the touch) water, and dip them in. They typically leave go within a minute. ;)
 
water, warm or otherwise has not always worked for me. I timed a big fat female cal. king that got me once. 15 minutes under water and she still wouldn't let go.

Plain old rubbing alcohol is what works on everything from big burms to hondos that think they're pines.
 
SO FAR it's worked for me. I have to admit I've never tried alcohol, only warm or cold water. I would definitely not advise to use cold water! Took me over a 1/2 hour to get my MBK off my hand after he swallowed my finger to the palm using cold water! LOL
 
LOL.............The fiesty and biting little kings always add some excitement to my collection. Just gets my heart racing a little faster with anticipation. Anyday I would rather be biten than musked on.
