    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I know folks have varying opinions on the look, but personally I think it's just the neatest thing! Usually I'm not overly fond of cresteds, but even I find him amazing! <3
Whatever he really is, I hope they can produce more from him. It'd be interesting to see where it goes then.

I think that banner picture comes from the page 40 photo shoot of the original thread http://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/showthread.php?54958-Piebald-crested-(pics) and there's a video of him on page 4. There's also a lot of good talk on possible genetics in there, it seems like there's a bit of debate over whether it's a "true" pied or not. I suppose only time will tell~
 
The gecko belongs to Matt Parks, owner of Pangea. He also bought all of the offspring produced by the pied (none of the offspring are showing the trait, but it's obviously unknown yet whether they carry it).

It's name is Patient Zero.

It's a neat breakthrough in the world of Rhacs if it porves out.There is more than one of these exhibiting what is believed to be the Pied trait and i still stand on my belief that this is a product of linebreeding/inbreeding.Very true "only time wil tell".
 
I think the guy was asking $30k for the group on kingsnake when I saw it months ago. I doubt he got it though. Im sure matt paid a pretty penny for em.
 
In my personal experience with animals like that, it is almost always genetic. How exciting!!! FINALLY, a recessive trait in Rhacs!! I am extremely optimistic it will prove out.
 
There are rumors of others, but no one has seen a picture yet. When Zero was introduced to the public, it was done via video, to eliminate any skeptics.

thats good that he was released via video and i hope there are more so that there is not a need for to much inbreeding to recreate this trait
 
You only need to inbreed by one generation to prove the trait, and that's offspring to parent who are only 50% related anyway. It's actually worse to cross offspring x offspring from the same parents than it is to cross offspring back to a single parent because offspring are 100% related to one another but only 50% related to one of their parents. Once the gene is confirmed, then you outcross as much as you want.

Inbreeding isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be so long as you do it responsibly and keep track of how related all your animals are. It's how we maintain breed standards to a degree in virtually every domesticated species.

This is a very true statement Vanessa . Thanks for bringing this up.Proper line-breeding is different from irresponsible in-breeding.As Vanessa explained only 50% relation by one of the parents is a safe method of pulling a trait forward by line-breeding which is the method that was used to create many of the "morphs" or redefined traits that we see today in cresteds.An even safer method is to use aunts or uncles that might also carry the desired trait thus carrying similar genetics but not direct. Irresponsibly in-breeding two animals will most likely result in weaker genetics, health issues, deformities and so on that might not be present at the time of hatching but are dormant and can result in health issues down the line. I hope that wasn't confusing :D either way i hope this also proves out cause i would really like to own one.
