In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

There is a little thread going on another forum...... I had always been under the impression that pin and hook worms can be transmitted from feeder crickets...... There are like 100 or so species of pinworm, that can infest reptiles and I am pretty sure that around a quarter of those species can be carried by insects..... I just want to get everyone elses view on the subject....

gregg,
yes crickets can give your gecko or lizard pins... i have never heard of crickets giving them hooks but pins yes and it is quite common (pins) especially for people who feed allot of crickets. however treatment is extremely simple.

Yup, they can transmit pinworms. I think crickets are the worst of the common feeders but technically any of them carry pins.

Thankyou very much Robin, Cody, and Marcia..... That is exactly what I thought and you all confirmed it..... You girls and guys are a great help.....

Thanks again.....

I posted a reply

I also threw in my .02 over 'there', and I'll post it here, too:

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree! I have had crickets right out of the box tested at IDEXX Labs for parasites and pathogens, and they were found to contain:

- oxyurids (pinworm eggs)
- provendencia rettgeri (bacteria)
- proteus vulgaris (bacteria)
- klebsiella pneumoniae (bacteria)
- aeromonas species
- citrobacter freundii (bacteria)

Pinworm eggs are commonly found in soil (among other things), and anything that comes into oral/fecal contact with them are susceptible to infection. (ie; unwashed produce) Fortunately, these nematodes are easily treated and pose the least health risks.

If you would like further information on parasitic infections in insects, here's a good place to start:

Very cool, Marcia. You are truly a wealth of information and an invaluable asset to us all.

what the ???

The original thread on this subject over at KS has mysteriously vanished! LOL!!! Just another reason for me NOT to waste my time by posting over there... apparently they don't like threads that contain important information.

I saw that myself..... WTF...... That place sucks..... I dont even know why I go there anymore..... That is the second time they deleted info on this exact subject..... It is just rediculous.....

Okay, this is now fascinating and hilarious. Are crickets or pinworms the new forbidden subject over there? LMAO. Did anyone even tell you what you said wrong? Nah, of course they didn't. Just the mysterious cleansing followed by eternal silence. Cracks me up.

Aren't some of their big sponsers producers of crickets? I imagine they pay for big ads too.

Hmmmmm, now I wonder why those threads got deleted.

Lol!!!

Well... the original thread was deleted, but it got re-posted! (he he he) Here's the latest:

Humpacks: "The question is: Do lizards get pinworms from crickets? The answers on my side have been no, never heard of it, or highly unlikely"

Me: Just because they have never heard of it or feel it is unlikely doesn't make it impossible.

Humpbacks: "If you beg to disagree, I beg to have you consult the specifics with your reptilian specialist and professionals in your state."

Me: Done! See above references.
