In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Please help! Summarized progress from below.....

Okay so we came to the conclusion my gecko has dead skin around his pore area under his belly. I took the advice, soaked him in water, and was able to get that huge wad of skin off of the belly. However, these sharp (i think dead skin) things are still poking into him and I don't know why! I'm trying to brush them down with a q-tip but I think he's been harassed enough for tonight. Has anyone ever seen this before? For some reason there is a split there and these sharp skin things have dug into his skin. I'm taking him to the vet first thing in the morning but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the heck this is and if its happened to you before? is it serious or just needs to be cleaned and antibiotic'ed up?

Okay new update. I've managed to clean the area of those sharp things. It must not have hurt him because he didn't flinch at all. In fact he was being a good boy and letting me swab for minutes at a time there. So I got the junk out but its just kind of red and its a slit, not a hole. Those sharp things were just hardened pieces of skin. Do you think he would need antibiotics in case of an infection? I hope that it will just heal on its own. Do you need to go to a specialized vet to get antibiotics (in reptile care) or can you just get them from any vet?

You may still want to take him to the vet just for a check to make sure everything is okay. I haven't ever heard of this before though. What you can do to prevent infection is place fresh clean papertowels down for substrate untill it heals. Also if its a cut and not his hemipenis exposed you can put some neosporin (with out pain relief) on the cut and that should heal it up. Hope this helps you,
Kristy

Okay I am not able to get him to a vet until monday at 215 but it is a vet that specializes in reptiles (and is an hr and half away) I cleaned all the crap out of there and right now it is just red and looks like a slit like he was cut or something. Why on earth would dead skin become so sharp as to cut into him, that's nuts!!! I talked to a vet this morning on the phone and she said to use neosporin on him until I can get him there. It looks better already like it might have even healed a little over night. Do gecko wounds usually heal nicely? I'm trying to keep the cage as clean as possible using a paper towel substrate and I'm going to use the neosporin 3 times daily to make sure to get rid of bacteria. I just hope that I caught it in time and that the wound will heal and there is no permanent damage. But that's so weird how a piece of skin could become daggerish like that and cut him and even start inverting and going inside of him. Weird....... I had no idea and I couldn't find anything online at all that had to do with a problem like that.

Sounds like you made some proress, I do think he will need an antibotic. I think the wound has something do do with his pores clogging up with all the dead shed. Be sure to make a humid hide for him and keep it misted, I would only use paper towels for now though.
Let me know what the vet says I am curious to what they will need to do.

Should I mist him now until monday? I don't usually mist, well I did for awhile and then stopped. Doesn't it create a breeding ground for bacteria? I'm not even going to put a cricket in there because I don't want any bad possible bacteria forming stuff in there.

You don't need to mist him and shouldn't, you need to mist part of his enclosure or a humid hide daily.
The reason he is having this sheding problem is because you were not misting his cage or keeping a humid hide for him to shed. Fat tails require some humidity to remain healthy and shed properly.

To make a humid hide you can use a Tupperware container, cut a hole that he can climb in and out of. Line it with a paper towel on the bottom and mist the inside of that hide every day. Then he will not have a problem getting of his shed. Put the humid hide on the warm end of his enclosure.

Humidity is very important. In the winter I have tons of problems with it being so dry in my reptile room due to the heat system I have...I actually keep pots of water on the radiators to try and help keep moisture in the air. My hides dry out in a day....water dishes dry out in a day...it is alot of work to keep everyone happy and saturated. SUmmer is different as my hosue becomes the most humid heck whole to live in....gotta love that! Then I do need to watch over saturating hides and watch for mold growth. Just keep at it and you will learn how many sprays in the hide how often...
I use the coconut fiber and some of the green moss stuff in my hides and it holds moisture pretty well...and the Leos love it, so do my AFTs.
Good luck!

It looks like there still some left. :ack2: I hope he turns out ok.
