Hello, I have a baby green Iguana. He is about a foot long. I got him about a month ago. I have gotten everything in his environment correct but I cant seem to get his lighting under control. At first I had his light too close and his poor head got burned. It was just the top layer of skin, it turned black. So I moved the light farther away...he seemed to be doing fine.
well, I went to the pet store yesterday and I realized that the light bulb i got didnt admit uva rays. so, I got another one. Its a 75 watt zoo meds light bulb. It literally said it admits uva rays....
Well, I made sure it was about 10 inches from where Iggy's basking spot is. for a while I thought he was alright. Well, I guess i was wrong. His body started turning brown, i took him out immediately! I took the temp in the basking spot and it was over 100 degrees.
What do I do? I mean, I can try and lift the light up more, or I could go get the 50 watt....
They dont have many options for bulbs there...at least ones with the uva rays.
For now i am going to switch the bulb back over to what i did have...
Please let me know....
Thank you.
