    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm not familiar with Kingsnakes. I've never kept them. I adopted "Spot" because his original owner neglected him, fed him rattlesnakes and is somewhat underweight. He has no heat whatsoever under his previous condition, and he was just delivered to me this evening. I would much rather take care of him, than to let the other owner neglect him to death.

I need some help identifying, considering the many color morphs available out there. I have absolutely no history info. on him/her, and will sex him soon to find out its gender. Any help is greatly appreciated! =)

Maybe I'm just getting to used to the "S2" and "scissors crossings" standard of desert Kings, cause that don't look like a Desert phase King to me. Looks more like a "normal" to me. either way, though it's a regular CA King.
 
It's definately NOT a desert cal king. It is a common king, coastal phase that most likely came from somewhere near Bakersfield or the surrounding foothills. I've seen a bunch that look very similar from that area.

It also looks like it's going blue and will most likely not eat, at least, until it sheds. It's somewhat, but not terribly, thin. My guess is it's recently out of the wild.

You could try warming it up, hot spot 85 to 90 F, but if it is out of the wild it will probably be into it's brumation and not want to stop until the daylight lengthens and temps in general warm up. You could always just set it up in your garage with some water and someplace to hide and wait a bit til things warm up in general.
 
I know nothing about Kingsnakes. What temp. do they brumate? I may have to contact the original owner and find out whether it was CB or WC. Hmmm... thanks a lot!
 
That sure looks like a wild caught snake to me. For you brumation is easy. Get a container that is snake proof, put a few inches of bedding in it, a bowl of water and put it in your garage until the first week or so of February. Then take it out, move it indoors or put it someplace warmer than the garage, wait a week or so and start feeding. Cal. kings are easy.
 
Unfortunately I don't have a garage, but I do have a similar cold spot. I've been trying to get ahold of this guy, but his phone's been disconnected. Figures since his truck is always breaking down on his way to my place, and now his phone's been disconnected makes a lot of sense. *LOL* :dgrin:

Since it's the new year and you seem new to snakes I'll chime in once more.

In Ca. it is NOT legal for you to posess Cal. Kings in Ca. you must have a valid fishing licence. They all expired on 12-31-04 so all of us who keep them need to renew our licenses. It is illegal to buy/sell/trade for any wildcaught cal. king. You can, with a valid fishing license, posess up to 4 of them and with a Captive Bred Wildlife permit your bag limit is unlimited for possesion though you can still only collect 4 per day. People CAN give you cal. kings but you still need your fishing license, one that allows you to catch trout is sufficent, to posess them.

Of course, this only applies if you are 16 years old or older.

Well I did have a license, but it was only valid for ONE DAY. *LOL*

Luckily Bob's Bait Bucket issues these fishing licenses, now if I remember correctly, theya re only good for one year and renewable every year right?

One more question - how would I know if it was a WC if I can't get ahold of this person?
 
The licenses are good for one calendar year, jan 1 to jan 1.

Just from looking at it I would guess it's from your area. I've hunted it on occasion and I work a lot with cal. kings. The wild caught ones just look different from the captive bred ones. Naturally I couldn't swear that it's wild but I'd be hard pressed to say otherwise.

When in doubt, cover your ass.
