    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

please ID this snake.

my cat droped it in front of my feet, holding onto it until it heals hopefully and then going to release it as long as it doesn't tame any. I think it's a glossy but not 100% sure. caught in ridgecrest CA.

This actually looks like an honest-to-goodness albino Red Coachwhip(Masticophis piceus), the first I've ever seen! Too bad somebody has to let their cats run loose and attack unique, rare animals like this. It looks like it has some serious punctures from the cat's fangs, and cat bites are almost as bad as Komodo Dragon bites when it comes to infections. Even without the injuries, an albino snake like this won't have too much of a chance in the wild; it's like they have a neon sign advertising their presence to every predator and prey animal alike, plus with no melanin, they have no protection from the sun's UV rays. There are a handful of Masticophis enthusiasts out there who would love to have this little snake, including myself, although the injuries could prove fatal. Such a shame.

:NoNo: I agree! But if you took it to a vet to see if those wounds could be healed, it might have a chance. Que lastima!

Its not a red coach wip, It may be a coach wip but its not a red one, I had one for 3 years and they are hard to keep in captivity. Trust me I know this first hand, But it does look like a coach.

I have bred and owned both Masticophis flagellum-Eastern AND Western, and M. pisceus for the past 15 years. It IS a Red Coachwhip, also known as a "Red Racer". Coachwhips aren't anymore difficult to care for than any other Colubrid snake, either. I've seen more baby Coachwhips than most people can even imagine in their lifetimes. The bold head-neck pattern, along with everything else, other than pigmentation, is very typical of neonate Masticophis. The so-called "Red Coachwhips" retain this pattern into adulthood, unlike most, which become more or less solid-colored snakes, or the two-toned pattern typical of the Easterns.

I don't know anything about the kind of snake it is. But the pics don't look decent enough to evaluate the extent of the injuries...they're a little blurry. I do agree with the previous posts about it being an albino and therefore it's nearly impossible for it to survive for long in the wild without falling victim to a larger animal on the food chain, or something else for sure.

I would tend to think that maybe some antibiotic injections are in order, and/or a culture and sensitivity to the areas to determine what kind of bacteria is harvesting in there...it will also tell you what kind of antibiotics your snake is sensitive and resistant to....

Good luck!
