• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have talked to a couple of members about this and am under the impression that once a PM is sent it cannot be UNSENT, I know that my copy can be deleted but as I had this answered before that they could not be UNSENT I just wanted to make sure that I am correct in my thinking and did not misunderstand anything.

So basically can a PM that has not been read by the receiver be nusent by the sender?

Or can they only be deleted from your storage of sent PM's?

Thanks ahead of time for asking this again!

As far as I know, sending an email is much the same as verbally saying something to someone. Once you say it, it is said. Once it is sent, it is available to the recipient, and you cannot call it back. I suspect that there are two copies made of that PM, one in the SENT folder from you, and ONE in the INBOX of the recipient.

But I could be wrong about this. Never had any reason to check up on it. But from a programmer's perspective, that's the way I would have coded it. I can delete a person's account and all associated emails, but I do not believe it does anything to those emails on the sender or receivers side to and from that account.

I'm not sure about this site but at other sites, I have Unsent Pms as long as I delete them before the recipient reads it. Like I said I have never tried this here but I don't see why this site would be different.

Well, a friend and I did a test on that last night, they sent me the PM and then deleted then I logged on and it was there and I read it.

Isn't an email sent to the recipient notifying them of an unread PM as well? Even if a PM could be deleted (which it can't) there is no way the accompanying email could be deleted. Fauna can do some amazing things but I don't think it's that powerful. :hehe:

Actually, through certain email clients an unread message that was sent can be "unsent". I'm a bit too tired to explain the workings of it atm but it is something that is possible. The practicality of having a programmer delve that deeply in code may however prove impossible. :hehe:

I was thinking that too, even if the PM could be unsent which we have found cannot, the email from fauna would still arrive. Fauna's notification of PM email can't be unsent either.

Now on AOL if you send an email and it has not been read you can unsend it, but only with AOL to AOL mail. But thats a totally different ball game.
