• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I posted a thought like this in the "classifieds snafu" thread only to have it go unnoticed.

Trying to look at the forum based ads is an absolute joke right now. People are answering ads from 3 years ago...just look at the leopard gecko classifieds.

Perhaps there should be some system of removing classifieds after 3-6 months. Or making it mandatory that the poster put the date they are posting the ad in the title of the ad. Everytime someone replies to a 3-year-old ad, it brings the ad right back up to the top. Then you have to go in and look to see the date of the original post....seems it would be much easier to do this from the 1st glance.

I try to go through and just look at the ones with 0 replies that were posted recently, but then sometimes sellers add photos or additional comments to their ads...so my system doesn't work very well.

Eh....

I think that was the biggest pain in the butt with this system before, and a lot of "solutions" were tossed around, but for one reason or another just weren't feasible. I'm HOPING that once more people start posting more new ads in there, it will slow down the reviving of old posts somewhat.....

One solution would be to automatically lock all ads after 30 days, or how ever many days Rich may see fit, from the last post in the thread/ad.

If the person who placed the ad has not renewed the ad in 30 days then more than likely they are not going to.

That is of course if Rich can easily set something like that up. I know some forum software easily allows this, but I am not sure if it is something that has to be done on a site wide basis or can be done on specific forums within a site.
