    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

what plans do you all have in place for power failure, how would you heat/cool your collection in an emergency? the only thing I can think of for emergency heating is the hand warmer thingies. cooling, I have no idea.......ice in a plastic container to put in the animal's enclosure?

Ed, what I had in the past was a Car battery that was connected to a convertor that changed 12 to 120 volts you can pick this up at any auto parts store for like $ 40 it comes with 3 outlets, so depending on how many plugs you have would determine how many you need... on a side, note always leave 1 outlet open for a Battery charger.

i use a old generator just curious how long will the car battery last running many lights with an alternator i know im running 2 12volts on my car and in on 1/4 run ive only got about 4 volts left of charge

Anymore you can pickup cheap generators for around $125.
That works too, but with gas prices its not economical. :rofl:

Last time I checked generators get alot better fuel efficiency than a car. The one we used with my grandfather ran around 4 days on 5 gallons of fuel. I consider it cheap compared to the number and cost of animals I could lose. I doubt a car battery would run my 50+ cages and incubator for any significant amount of time.

Ok maybe I explained this wrong.....The car battery isn't in the car... :rofl: ya I guess I can see you point with running that much juice. maybe 2 batteries.

I didn't think it was in the car, just comparing the efficiency of generators to cars.

I use a

a 5000 watt generator to run my 60 foot building.. So far have not had to use it!!! Keep my fingers crossed and pray alot!!!! Mike

forgot to mention, if you run a computer of a generator you should connect your computer through a battery backup unit, UPS, to condition the power used by the computer. Serious hardware damage might occur otherwise.

Tux If I was with out power, The last thing I'd be thinking about would be a computer :rofl: I just think of a Po' mans way of doing things (IE) why buy it if you can build it, rather keep the money in my pocket for better things. :dgrin:

when my power goes out all i worry about is the important this like fridge,freezer,animals and most important tv chance are it will probaly be back in a few hours using a generator better than replacing hundred of dollars in food
