Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Prehistoricpets?????????

Preinfested Pets!

Ants in the leopard gecko's, mites on the snakes, filthy cages, dry water bowls, and employee's that have a vast knowledge of worthless bull $h!t. Enough said!!

while i wouldnt buy a pencil off prehistorics pet fountain valley i have heard very good things about the prehistoric pets in chino

I didn't like them!!! I did a trade for a reduced pattern female Hogg Island Boa, for a albino female ball python plus some cash to make up the difference. Well, we did the trade, and it ended up that we had to trade our animals back due to that the female they sent me was sick..I had no idea what the heck was going on with her. Then when I got my female back plus the cash I sent to them, about a few weeks later, my hogg was put down due to IBD. She came back to me sick and thank god she wasn't in with my other snakes nor in the same room. DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM...that's my experince....I don't like them, and will never deal with them ever again.

IBD?

Darn, that is scary, I hope the one snake I bought from them 1 year ago doesn't come down with IBD :( When did this happen?

Hmm IBD, If they have (had) IBD don't you think they be out of business?

They have alot of snakes there on site

The snake that I bought there has breed two of my female normals ehh

Did anyone else here this story

Not really sure but I herd this happened to quite a few people, PLEASE understand this is only what I herd. I am simply wondering if anyone else herd the same thing.

They were taking reptiles in for Breeding loans from independant people. They were using there reptiles to breed with some of there stock and then whatever agrement between the two parties was suposed to be settled at the end. Well they were in turn selling off thoses peoples reptiles and telling them that they died. I herd one person was responding to an add for a boa quite a while after the fact and when he got a pic from the person selling it it was his that he had loaned them for breeding. He asked where they had purchased it from and they said Prehistoric Pets!

Again this is only what I herd so I thought I would through it out there to see if anyone else herd the same thing or close to it?
This was about a year ago that I herd this.

IBD

Hey Clif, I'm sorry to hear your snake died, but I sure hope you have some type of proof to back up your statement about IBD. IBD is something I doubt anyone here takes lightly, so if you are making the assumption your snake died from IBD then you better say so. Prehistoric deals with many many pythons so if they do or ever have had IBD I think they would know about it, as would everyone else.

prehistoric

i have been to prehistoric drove 2hrs to get their. Their animals on display are in ok/good condition....i ended up not being able to do a trade with them cause the guy wasnt thur..but i ended up buying some nice normal retic females....and one of the guys that deals with the big retics brought out a female albino tiger retic like 12ft long and showed me and my friends since i drove so long up their. personally i think prehistoric has soem nice animals

Hi I had blood , fecal, and a necropsy done by The Write Veternary Clinic In Bethlehem Pa. They are Reptile Specialist And Are recommended By any of the local vets and breeders in the area. All of the Tests came back POSITIVE for IBD. I don't take diseases especially IDB lightly. this is extremely serious and no joking matter!!!

IBD

Clif, how long ago did this happen?? Did you contact Jay to let him know that he's selling sick animals? IBD is any boid and python breeder's worst nighmare and should not be taken lightly!! Can you please give us more info, like time lines and dates? I only live 2 miles away from them and that's way to close for IBD.
They are also on the vender's list for NARBC in Anahiem next week end.

This happened about three years ago. I have said something to them, but they said it wasn't there problem. It had to have happened over when she arrived to me. I'm sorry, but I have had all my boids tested after that whole thing with IBD. All tests came back Neg. I'm so striked about having new animals. New arrivels or old arrives stay in a different room from my major collection. My Hogg Island Boa was in quarin. for a few weeks till she started to not eat, star gaze, and started to flip herself in weird possitions. Took her to the vet and had all tests done, and I had to put her down.

There was a website that there are a few people that have said there is a pet store in fountain valley in CA that they have bought a few boids from there and a few animals died. I don't remember that website, but if I do see it, I'll post it. Very sorry for not having too much info on that site. I just remember seeing it and this BOI reminded me of it. But I'll do my best to find it.

Time line was about three years ago during chirstmas. about a few days before the holidays.

I'm sorry, but I have had all my boids tested after that whole thing with IBD. All tests came back Neg.
Hey Cliff,
What kind of test do you run on all your boids for IBD? Did they have to put all your boids down for IBD test? Do you still have a copy of the IBD test report on your Hogg? How do you know and be certain if your Hogg got IBD from Prehistoric, while she has been back into your care for few weeks?
About Prehistoric in Fountain Valley, I've been to their store. Their cages may not be clean, their price may be high. However, I had a pair of Hoggs in the past from their stock (bought through a 3rd party), and they were the best Hoggs I ever had

Prehistoric Pets Chino

I visited Chino Prehistoric Pets yesterday while visiting my sister. I loved the lay out of the store, thought that their supply selection was pretty weak, but ok... zoo med stuff. But, as I walked around viewing each of the animals I couldn't help but think that they really needed to get someone busy with cleaning detail.

The once lavish enclosures are in serious need of a good scrubbing and touch up. The lizards looked pretty good in general from what I could tell. Only saw a couple questionable ones that looked a bit thin to me, but it could have been species specific.

They had a couple tortoises that looked incredible to me, and the turtle pond was pretty nice too imho.

The snakes were not as plentiful as the 4 leggeds... but, they had a few arboreals for me to see. The larger carpet python looked real nice, the approximately 2 year old was coiled in his water dish with what appeared to my fairly well educated eyes a massive amount of mites around his eyes and heat sensors. This enclosure was amongst the rest of the regular display cages. I actually got out my reading glasses to take a better look since he was in back of his enclosure. Spots were moving. I could be wrong... but really don't think so.

There were 2 green tree pythons, both of these snakes appeared to be long term non-feeding adults which were dehydrated and didn't appear to have had healthy shed for quite some time.

I checked the timetable on these posts and realize that some time is covered by this thread...... after my visit yesterday I did a search here to find out if there was any info available and this thread came up. Interesting.

To the new owner of Chino PP, I saw a shop with so much potential, great displays.... and husbandry which probably looks fine to the general public, but to the educated it is sad to see animals on display for sale to general public that shouldn't be.

I wouldn't sell anything with mites.

Pull them off diplay, get them healthy so that a first time snake owner ... of which I'm sure you sell to many of... will have a good experience with their animals.

The single employee I saw on hand didn't seem very interested in helping the public that was there with simple questions.... and certainly time could be well spent with some thorough cleaning. The store smelled very bad, I hope I caught the store on a "bad day". It is easy to get accustomed to different odors when exposed to it regularly.

I went there hoping to find a nice new shop worth visiting from time to time... right now, gotta admit, it's kinda iffy for me.

My hogg was sent to them with a bill of health witch I had blood and fecal test done with to ship with her so they knew her health was outstanding. when we got her back she was ok for about a month or so then she started t ostargaze and roll herself over we then took her to the vet and had all the blood and fecal test done on her again. I don't know if I still have the blood work. reports anymore. since i just moved. Anyway they said the blood work was positive for IBD and Both sets of blood test they did they came back the same. We didn't have to put down any of our other snakes due to they were not living in the same house as she was in. they were about 20 minutes away so they were all safe. She was never around any of our other snakes. Ihad her for a couple years before I met my girlfriend who has a lage snake collection and this all happened about a month after we met so they never got mixed together.

I was under the impression that an IBD test was fatal to a snake. Has there been an advancement that I'm not aware of? I have never heard of a blood test for IBD. Seems odd that such an advancement would not have been more widely announced.

As far as I know there is no blood test for IBD, but I could be wrong. I think it would be great to be able to test for IBD with out killing the snake and I'm sure I'm not the only one, so I think if they could do it that way we all would know about it.

could you maybe post your vets info, so we could call him/her to find out about this test?

Thanks,
Bruce Ungerer

You can test them for IBD. I can give you the website that links you to info on blood tests. I can also give you the website to the vet. You may call that vet about blood tests. They do do the tests and it's very expensive. I was hurting for a few months in order to catch up to bills. Tests where about $400.

Here is the site that states that you can do blood tests.

And the vets website:

I hope this helps.

Prehistoric Pets Chino - reply to Luvchondros

I would like to resond to the LuvChondros post concerning Prehistoric Pets in Chino. My brother and I have owned that location for about 6 years now. Most of our customers are aware of our plans to conpletely remodel that store in the coming months. We feel the need to defend ourselves from some of LuvChondros comments. First, it is in our opinion that we have a great selection of supplies and much more variety than any reptile store we have ever visited in our area. Our shelves are always full and if you don't see a product on our shelves we have it for you in one business day. We are a little partial towards ZooMed products and that's because we feel that they have the best products. If you only knew the return rate due to defective merchandise of some of the other products out there. Second, we had three people working that day one at the counter, one cleaning cages and myself handling online orders. The cages get cleaned everyday and sometimes it takes all day; and yes, you may see a few dirty cages before we get to them. Remember, there are 200 cages in this store. Third, massive amounts of mites is an exaggeration. I personally checked the snakes mentioned and didn't see any. However, I would not state that our store is mite free. A lot of reptiles come in and out of here and many times its a customers animal that will bring new mites into our store. Mites are a problem for every store. At one point in time you will get them, you'll kill them and then a month later you have them back again. I want anyone reading this post to understand that we treat our store for mites all the time and we go to great lenghts to stop them; its an ongoing battle. Fourth, the Green Trees you talked about were one our customers that he had for about 2 years. We just purchased those snakes, they have been in Prehistoric Pets for one week. Sometimes you will see reptiles on display that are not in perfect health. However, they will not be sold in that condition, and you'll find those reptiles are not even labeled for sale. Fifth, we just hired three new emplyees that I have been personally training. This is their first job and they are little nervous, but they all have potential and have a love for reptiles. I'll talk to them personally and remind them to pay more attention to customers and try to be more helpful. If any customer has a problem with something an employee does in our store, please let us know and we'll do our best to correct the problem. I'll finish this up by defending the smell of our store. Do a lot of reptile stores have a 4000 gallon indoor pond or large tortoises on alfalfa? Those things add to the smell of the 200 plus animals in the store. However, it's mostly the pond water, it's smell just gets trapped inside a store like ours. LuvChondros I thank you for the nice comments but it's hard not to be a little upset about some of the things you said. My brother,my manager, and I work hard everyday to make sure our customers are happy. We know we can't make everyone happy or avoid some type of criticism, but we try. LuvChondros if you are unhappy with the store, fine, but after our remodel I would love to have you come back and take a look.
Thank you,
Jim & Tony Alles

Prehistoric pets

I live near Prehistoric Pets and often shop in the store. It is a large reptile and amphibian facility well known here in Orange County. They have a breeding program as well as retail store selling animals they did not breed there at the facility. They also have a large number of show animals for exhibits and parties. I would not be too worried about deali ng with them, they have been around here for a very long long time with a fairly decent reputation.
