In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has anyone delt with these people, in particular, has anyone done a trade deal with prehistoricpets in Fountain Valley, CA?

Thanks

Sorry, I should have worded differently. I have seen people post elsewhere and heard talk in person that the conditions in Prehistoric's shops are less than great. I have not seen it in person so I cannot personally vouch for the validity of these claims. However, I would certainly want as much information as possible, confirmed or unconfirmed, so that I may make a well thought out decision. That is why I brought it up.

I HAVE been there.......do yourself a favor and stay away!

Well known and in my opinion DISrespected for the filth and mites that is Prehistoric Pets.

These guys tried to sell me baby Bolivians.......as if the HUGE and MANY (including infested eye sockets) MITES that were crawling all over these Boas didn't exist! When I pointed it out to the worker he just said "Oh....yeah....I didn't see those." Maybe the numerous no-pest strips should have clued him in.....I know that's why I was suspicious before the shoebox even slid out of the rack!

There were many other animals lying in there own feces, as well as water bowls with feces....and many of them didn't look healthy at all....but they were ALL for sale.

Apparently they don't care WHAT they send home to your prized collection as long as they get the $.

Do a search on this website and you will see that I'm not the only herper with this opinion.

I was not happy with them.

About a year ago, they had a female blizzard pictured for sale on their Blizzard Lizard website stating she was 45 grams +. There was a second ad with a photo that said something to the effect of "awesome 40 gram+ blizzards" I spoke with Jay, and was assured that the female in the ad was indeed the one I would be getting, and there were plenty of others that were nice and big. I bought the female that was pictured, and another from the second ad group.

When they arrived, both were only about 4 months old and weighed under 25 grams each. Needless to say, this is not what I ordered and paid for. When I called the store, Jay was not there, and I got the total run-around... one person told me that female had been sold several days ago, then I spoke with another person that said their webmaster must have misunderstood when posting those pics, and then a third person told me the photos in the ad were just examples.

When I finally spoke to Jay and told him the problem, his response was, "well, I picked out the two biggest ones we had." It went on and on. Basically, we got nowhere, and I wound up paying $300 for 2 little juvie blizzies and a pledge that I would never do business with them again.

Attempted a trade

I had a 17 foot female retic i tried trading them , over a period of 2-3 months the deal on their end changed weekly .I offered to pay for the shipping($300) thru Delta Dash , just wanted a good trade offer. Got the run around and the last deal offered by them was a pair of normal boas they were selling for $80 each, not even worth the shipping i was going to pay.

Although I would say your trade deal that was offered is not something I would do either, but I have a point to make.
How much do you think you were going to get for the retic? The only good thing about the retic in the breeders eyes was that it was a female. Normals are a dime a dozen. You spend almost as much in shipping as you would for the snakes if you bought it. Point is, the female retics is not worth all that much.
Did Delta quote you that much for shipping her? How much did she weigh? Just seems a bit steep.

As far as the trade deal, did you contact them or did they contact you? If you contacted them, I do not see where the frustration comes in on your part. They may not have been looking for a normal retic (I bet $$ they had pleanty already), but figured what the heck.
Did they say they WOULD do a trade for "X" item and then change it or did they give different ideas over the course of a few days/weeks or whatever?

Granited, you retic is worth more than 2 baby boas, but I just get the impression you thoguht it was worth a ton or something.

I asked them

I contacted a few people about her .Prehistoric pets contacted me back, it started as one thing and kept changing. They were looking for large female to breed with tigers and super tigers but the deal kept changing .Only frustration on my part was waiting all that time.It gets monotonous for a deal to keep changing time after time.

One thing I have to grant them, they take very good pictures of the animals they have for sale. Granted anyone can ask whatever feels their animals are worth, but IMHO oftentimes what they ask for a given species is way over current market prices. Maybe this is a reflection of the fact that they have to actually maintain a store.

Regards.

I must be misunderstood

Before it gets to the point of being totally taken out of context , all I did was refer to a deal i was working on with them . In no way shape or form did i expect to get a "ton" of anything for a normal retic. If i had gotten at least the value of shipping great. Deal wasn't done because i got tired of it constantly changing and i was not taking less than what i was going to pay for shipping.

I never said it was a bad store or anyone was getting screwed nor did i say it was a good store , I just related the one time i dealt with them.

I hear you Bryon. I know you never said anything about the store, and I do appreciate you clearing that up about your expectation.
SOME people try to get way more than they deserve for the animal.
'Ton' was a bad term for it. I had no price in mind so I can understand where you are coming from, but I do not feel any harm was done at all on your part.

Glad you didn't make the deal! :)

Thanks to all those who replied in regards to this post. I think I'll do myself a favor and stay well clear of prehistoric pets!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've gotten some beautiful snakes from Prehistoric and am really happy with them.

Nice boas w/ mites.

I recently purchased a pair of boas from Prehistoric Pets. They both were beautiful and healthy but they both had mites. This was nothing that quarantining and a little BK could not handle, but getting sent mites is unacceptable. I will not order from them again even though they do have some very nice animals.

They are very overly expensive and there reptiles are not in that great of condition. They do a large part of childrens parties but all they want is there money. Alot of reptiles are in way too small of cages. I would definatly stay away. Not worth the time in my book.

Just to clarify one thing. I am the owner of reptileguru.com. We also go by Prehistoric Pets. We are located in Chino, CA and are completely seperate from the Fountain Valley location. Jay sold us his Chino store about 6 years ago. Just wanted to let everyone know that we are a seperate company. Thanks.

I sold and bought from them

I have sold many snakes to Prehistoricpets and bought a few snakes from them. They are good people, but they do have mites :(. I guess it's hard to keep it under control with the volume they do.

There right down the street from me!

I have been to the store and every animal I looked at and handled were covered in mites. I also felt that their enclosures were kept dirty and water dishes were filthy.
