In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

For much of the day, I couldn't get Fauna to come up (the only site that I encountered a problem with). It would either time out, or I would get the green screen. It is working, now, albeit VERY slowly.

It's very hit and miss for me right now. Been struggling to get on for a while and its still extremely slow.

Same here...I thought it was the cold...

Yeah, I know. Been badgering the hell out of the server guys to get it fixed. One of them claimed there were over 28,000 apache connections at one time. I saw a server load over 24 at one point (normally it should be no more than 1).

It's the entire server and not just this one site.

It will either get fixed real soon or I will be moving the sites to a new server.

Probably some creting trying a kiddie script to emulate a DDOS....

Things seem pretty good in my corner...aside from a few issues which I associate with my machine; but a customer reported tonite that he is still having difficulty accessing fauna (and has since the start of our correspondence, right around the time the site came back online)

He reported back, saying he's still having problems, and the site just doesn't load. He is using Verizon.
I asked 2 other people that use Verizon, and they seem to be having problems as well.

There are scripts running on the server that analyze all incoming traffic and automatically reject anything suspicious looking. Since IP addresses are apparently being spoofed, when they get blocked, whoever may REALLY be associated with the IP gets blocked along with it. There are actually multiple levels in a DDoS attack. The intent is Denial Of Service.

Just a heads up here, I have leased a new server (yeah, another one.... right now I have five (5) :ack2: ) that is in a pretty secure environment. They specialize in mitigating DDoS attacks and the guy who pulled this one out of the fire works closely with them. So perhaps when this site is moved over there, it will help things with the people now not able to gain access. If not, well, there isn't really too much that can be done about it. It was a choice of doing it that way, or have the site TOTALLY down. I'm sure you can see what my choice had to be.

Not sure when the server move will be, but likely sometime between Monday and Wednesday. Prior to the actual move, this site will be shut down so no posts will be lost. You'll see the message when you log on, and I'll try to give you as much warning as possible.

Thanks...........

I use Verizon and did have a problem with the site night before last and yesterday morning , it would just time out and nothing . Randy

FWIW I am using Verizon, although it is their fiber-optic service (FIOS) and I have had no problems since the site came back up.

I tried posting in the Legislative forum and got this ....

BryonsBoas, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Is this part of the SNAFU? I had to post my thread in General Herp Talk due to it.

Which forum exactly in that section? Might just be some permissions screwed up. The situation related to the DDoS would not cause that kind of a problem.

The USA State Specific forum.

I can post in the General Discussion Forum. I'm reasonably sure I wanted to post in the General Discussion Forum and clicked on the State Specific. As tired as I was I likely clicked the wrong forum.

Members can only post replies to threads in that forum and cannot start a new thread. That particular forum was created when I decided that the individual forums for each state legislative issues were a waste of resources based on the light usage. So I combined all threads into a single thread for each state and made it the way you see it now. The idea is to have any state related issue held within the specific thread for that state.

Not the best solution, I admit....... But the separate forum idea just wasn't working out, and I wanted to reduce the forum count.
