10 healthy eggs from a first-time mom! I couldn't believe this!

Eggs in Egg Box:

These eggs weren't quite as large as the eggs in the Pastel X Normal Clutch of 10 eggs--these fit into the box just fine. haha But this girl is only a 2,000 gram snake (and first-time mom) compared to the 3,300 gram normal (and very seasoned breeder) from my other clutch--I certainly expected this girl's eggs to be a bit smaller.

Here's to hoping for a male spider het hypo! I need one to hold back to make some honeybees. Looks like I wound up with more chances to produce one than I thought--I fully expected 4-5 eggs, maybe 7 if I was reeeeeeally lucky. Getting 10 never even crossed my mind; I almost hit the floor when I got the mom off the eggs and counted.

I was surprised when my het albino female gave me 7 healthy ones for a first clutch. I was kinda surprised to see 10 from my normal (bred to pastel), especially since she tended to lay 7 each year, but not really shocked; after all, she's a seasoned breeder and 3,300 grams. But this one really blew my mind: 10 eggs from a 2,000-gram, first-time mom. After a day (to get over the shock), my next thought was: Geez, if she lays 10 for a first clutch, what's she gonna do when she's 3,000+ grams 5 or 6 years from now? LOL

None of my girls laid last year, though I did breed a few (my normal that laid this year, the the ghost girl from this clutch, plus another that I didn't breed this year). I'm not sure why they didn't; I did lose my dad to cancer last year (spring) , and I've wondered if maybe the snakes had a sort of sixth sense, knew something was "wrong" and just didn't go or if it was some other factor altogether. In any case, I'm now wondering if the the girls are trying to make up for not laying anything last year! LOL If so, they've certainly done a good job!

Thanks much! As for the pics, I photo-document everything just for my records. The pics I've posted aren't even half of what I have actually taken/saved; I didn't want to bore everyone too much with 20 pics of the pair locked. I start breeding in mid-late October each year, just to kick things off, or in the case of virgin males, who sometimes take a bit longer to really figure out how things are supposed to go. haha But I do pairings from October until ovulation or the male loses interest (which often goes up into March-April). (But not to worry--my males breed for 2-3 days, then get 4-5 off, so I'm not overworking him. ) In any case, that amounts to a lot of photos over the course of a breeding season. And of course, I get hatching pics, individual hatchling shots once they emerge, and one or two good clutch shots. All for my own records. But you should've seen me a couple of months ago--my camera finally bit the dust, and I'm panicking to my husband: "Honey, I have to go get another camera; I photo-document everything! And the eggs are gonna be here soon, and then hatchlings!" LOL So if the colors look off in any of my photos, it's because I'm still getting used to using a new camera to photograph the snakes.
