In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A local lady raises quail and has offered me some for my boas. Does anybody have any experience or info on feeding quail to boas? Would it be better/healthier to stick with mice and rats? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I have heard once they are stuck on birds its hard to get them off. Not sure if that holds any truth asI have not done it myself but I have heard. I am sure some more people will chime in with all th info.

Quail are excellent prey for BCC/BCI,BCL etc . . . .
There are no rules when it comes to prey,if it fits down the pipe
a meal is a meal.
For the most part they are garbage pits and will eat anything
thats offered during their younger years so dont be afraid to diversify
at every opportunity

Personally its hard for me to feed quail to a snake
because I love wrapping them in bacon and pitching them on the grill:yesnod:

I'm sure they'll take them, mine love chicks....

I have heard there is less food value than in a rodent so snakes reared exclusively on birds grow more slowly than those on rats & mice.

I feed mine birds once every 3 or 4 feeds to keep a food variety going.

With day-old chickens the S**T is indescribably horrible, liquid and stinky. :ack2::ack2::ack2:

But I have found that if I rear the chick on dry food pellets for a few days it's better and/or, as I feed them F/T, cut the gut and squeeze out the contents - it seems that it's the undigested yolk causing the problem...

After I discovered this it wasn't nearly as bad. So I'd imagine adult quail would be OK, but have no experience.

Helen, I think you're right about the yolk causing bad poos. I used to feed quail a lot to raptors and we always broke the abdominal cavity and pulled out the yolk before we offered the food to the birds. We did that primarily to keep the birds clean (instead of covered with sticky yucky yolk), but I could imagine bowel movements being... interesting... with that much fat.
