• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I like the idea of this program, however I am confused as to why I need to pay a yearly enrollment fee to be “considered” a good guy based on Fauna Classifieds definition? I am sure this question has been asked before but before I would even consider becoming a subscriber I would like a few valid reasons as to why this is setup the way it is.

Thanks,

I guess the short answer is because I am the one who has to do the work to set it up manually. Then maintain it, make corrections, do audits to make sure the websites still exists, catch flak from people concerning votes, etc, etc....

Plus many people use this as an advertising avenue for their business, which certainly has come value to them.

I guess what it boils down to is if you aren't willing to support this site financially, then I choose to limit what I am willing to do for YOU for free.

You become a subscriber to support the site, and the BOI.

The Good guy certification program allows you to add a link ( image of a ribbon) which links back to a poll which you can send your customers to to vote on you as a good guy, or a bad guy, depending on how your transaction went :) Its useful if you want people to check out that link to see instantly if you are a good businessman or not, and you can link them to the BOI to search for your name, to see any other good word posts that customers may have made for you.

Yeah, you aren't paying for the RIBBON certification. You are paying to support the site, and have access to certain things that just being registered doesn't allow you access to. Being a contributor doesn't necessarily guarantee you the ribbon. Being a stand-up, respectable person/businessman comes into play for that.

When I process applications, I give everyone (unless they are obviously not qualified to have it) the benefit of the doubt and issue the cert to them. It is up the members here (who can vote on the polls) to decide whether that person or business can KEEP the certification.

Yes, voting is limited to paid members as well. The reason for this is because without that sort of control, ANYONE could create dozens or more false registrations in order to post bogus votes on the polls. Then guess who would have to clean up THAT mess?

Thanks all for taking the time to respond, I am sure you understand how much revenue a website generates by people such as myself coming here. Advertisers will pay you based on your daily traffic so the more people whom come here the better for you and this is based on visitors not even a subscriber like myself or paid subscribers. That adds allot of value to someone like me even though I am not paying you a cent. Based on this and to my point why not offer this as a free based service? I understand how do you control people from creating multiple accounts under multiple account names. Only allow domain email accounts, no hotmails, gmails and yahoo accounts if you want to be a "Good Guy" you need a domain email account. What will this do for you? Well it will certainly cut back on erroneous "Good Guy" accounts and allow you to ban a heck allot easier. I understand not everyone will understand the concept of owning a domain and that my friend is were you can setup as you do now paid for subscription accounts to create a sub domain through FaunaClassifieds.com. For example FaunaClassifieds.com/joesreptiles, joe gets an email account through you "more daily traffic" has to pay for it and allows you more freedom to manage these accounts. Just my two cents and thanks for the site!!

So you can pay to have Fauna host your e-mail, pay to have a web based e-mail account on another provider or let those with yahoo/hotmail/gmail accounts partisipate by having them be contributing members to have some of the extra benifits of the site.

Whats the diff? Personally from what I have gotten out of talk around this site is that Webslave spends plenty of his time doing what he has to/can to keep things going here. Throwing e-mail hosting on top of everything else is more work, more money, more headache.

I vote..........Don't do it Rich! (like he needed my input). Its your site run it like you want. I will send money as long as it is an option for me.

BTW. I am one of those Yahoo's that supports this site with my other friends.......Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, Jackson maybe I can talk Grant into coming over soon.

Sorry, but no. I have done web hosting and the like, and it was far more headache than it was worth. I don't intend to do that again.

As for banning free email hosts, this has been approached before, but the response was overwhelmingly against it. People had good reasons for having such accounts, and to be quite honest, that would be an excellent way to just KILL this site entirely by blocking such registrations. Thanks, but no thanks.

I can appreciate that, and I didn't mean ban public emails for the registered users just to be in the "good guy" program you must use a domain account, just a thought..

Thanks again for the responses!
