In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi,

Got this sweet kingsnake at a local pet shop, they didn't know anything other then it was an albino.

Picture's don't do it justice makes the snake look white and yellow, but he's white, with real light green scales, and ofcorse the red albino eyes.

SO long story short, this a typical albino king or a morp of some sort?

pics on photobucket couldn't figure out how to add them here

No harm, no foul Jeremy.

Looks like a typical albino striped cali king (best I can tell, photo's are a little blurry).
I had one as my first long term pet snake, had her for 15 years. Nice pick up!

sweet thanks, wasn't sure.....little guy wouldn't sit still for pic. I wasnt sure if green strips made different even though they look yellow in picture, love little guy special morph ir not

Jeremy,.....if the tail has the stripe continuing all the way down the back to the tip of the tail, or even if it's broken with dots and dashes, then it is basically a striped amel Cal. king, but if it has a wide solid-topped tail, it is an amel Newport-Long Beach morph.

Thank doug and dave.

He/she does have a solid green strip alway to the ind of it's tail tip.
Striped amel cal. king then?
Did I get ripped off paying pet store price of 79.99 (far as breed goes as for pet was priceless)

Looks to be more of a Newport Phase Amel with the pattern on the laterals.......

Cal kings are from brown to black with white to yellow bands.......
The term Amel means Amelanistic = no melanin (black).
So the yellow will still be apparent and the black will be missing and replaced with no pigment......white.......

No green at all on Calkings......

Yeah, that's spot-on John. I'm sure he simply means a greenish opaque hue to it, and not really a definative solid GREEN coloration from pigment cells. I know you have seen this look many times too. Likely from carotenoid retention retained within the skin cells as they mature.

Also, since the animal is an amel, and the tail has a continuous stripe down the length of the tail, right off the bat there is no question that it has both Newport-Long Beach AND San Diego striped lineage to it's origin. Hubbs states that there has never been a known "pure" Newporter albino ever found in the wild. But as we both know there are indeed many countless amel San Diego striped morphs in the hobby. These two line-bred composites are also what originated the "banana" Cal. kings decades ago.

To the OP,.....you must always expect to pay a few extra bucks from a pet store, as they have to allow for overhead of the store with some profit as well. Now if you are happy with it, and since you didn't have to pay for shipping or gas to drive to a show that was many miles away, you did fine if you look at it realistically.

OOPS!!,........nevermind my comment on the green hue. Right after I posted it, I see he was talking about the normal YELLOW pigment after looking at a photo of it, and not the amel equation which is very pink at that age anyway..LOL!.............D'OH!!
