    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Okay this may be a silly question but I'm reading very different things on the matter (has no actual pertanence to my own critters, just my own curiosity).

While browsing all sorts of snake related forums on the net, over time I've noticed people talking about their snake's growth... Now, some people are saying that a snake only grows for the first (x) years of it's life, and then stops/grows very little after that point, regardless if it reached adult size or not.

Other people seem to be implying that a snake will grow to a certain adult size range no matter how long it takes it... so for instance, if a snake wasn't fed or kept properly for the first couple years, it will just take extra years compared to a properly fed and kept snake to reach it's adult size.

I hope that makes sense... So which is it? Is it different for different species or situations?

***By size I mean length, just to clerify.

Well since no one else has chimed in, I'll see if I can give you a decent answer. To my knowledge and in my experience with snakes, growth tends to decrease as age increases. If you take Corns as an example, they grow from about 10" at hatching to about 3.5' in around 3 years. After that they still continue to grow, but not at that rate (otherwise they'd grow to tremendous sizes in their 20+ year lifespan). The biggest Corn I've had personally was a male snow that was around 5.5' when he died (prematurely) at 13 years old. Some species grow at astonishingly fast rates when young, like Retics. Of course these are under ideal conditions and growth rates will vary depending on the conditions in which the animal is kept. If the animal is not fed enough (sometimes there are other factors involved also), then growth will be stunted. If the conditions are corrected, the animal may go on growing with no real detriment and will reach a normal adult size. Then there are other factors that influence growth also. For example Retics from island locations typically don't grow as large as those from the main land, 7-8' vs 20'. Hope that answers your question and if anyone else has an opinion I'd like to hear it as well.
