    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Question about Vision Cages

Howdy,

I have been trying to get some good information on Vision cages, specifically the larger sizes. Everyone I have emailed has no idea, and the people on the forum I used to belong to are too busy talking about themselves. I have been thinking about getting a few of the 72x36 Vision cages for some of my larger herps, but I have discovered quite a few posts and photos online that claim that the these cages have a tendency to sag, i.e., when they are stacked on top of each other, or when they are housing a large boa/python. I also cannot figure out how you are supposed to heat or light them. Are the built-in light shrouds still usable when you are stacking cages? Are you able to attach a UTH or flexwatt? I have no idea, and everyone I know that uses them uses the smaller sizes. Help !!!
 
If you stack them the light shrouds are built to be accessible from the back of the cage even when stacked. I have 4 of the six foot cages stacked and they support each other although it is true I can see a minute bit of sagging in the middle.
 
It even depends on how they were stored before you get the cage. I have seen them brand new with a lot of sagging to the point that two people are needed to insert the glass. I think that is where the big problem is, before you purchase take a good look at the cage. I know people with a 7 high stack with very little sagging, almost unnoticeable and they swear by them.
 
My understanding is that newer cages are somehow braced to reduce sag/compression, and the result is a noticeable improvement (but not a total fix). As mentioned, the light fixtures are still usable when stacked. And, yes, you can use UTH or flexwatt (calorique).
