    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Can you use a dimmer with one of those water-proof aquarium heaters? I used one with a 25w black light bulb in my homemade incubator for corns and leos, but I want to make a couple of larger, better incubators for ball pythons and chameleons using a these heaters if they can be controlled with a regular light dimmer switch. thanks

Are you talking about the submersible heaters - the heating element enclosed in the glass tube? You could, but most of them already have a setting dial on them to control the power/temp. Of course, the rheostat would allow for manipulation of temps without opening the incubator or messing with the heater. There are many options for make-your- own incubators...I have not used the aquarium heaters heaters for that purpose, though - just seems like too much trouble to me.
 
Yeah, the submersable heaters. I'll check out the heaters I buy to make sure they are adjustable. I keep the room where I incubate very constant, and have never had problems incubating using a dimmer and 15-25w bulb and a styrofoam cooler for leos and corns. For my bp's I am going to use one of those large plastic coolers that guarantee that ice inside will stay frozen for five days (with a plexiglass window), and an aquarium heater. I use a nice digital indoor/outdoor dual reading thermometer with the outdoor probe stuck in the substrate, so with this setup I shouldn't have any problems as long as I check the room/substrate temp daily. As long as the sub. heaters can be easily adjusted. I'll probably use a dimmer either way so I don't have to open the cooler every time I need to adjust the temp a little bit. Thanks for the reply.
