Question on colors

In perusing different websites with Geckos for sale, I've noticed that some *appear* to have the same coloring/pattern, but different names. For example, the beautiful Bell lizards that have the very cool distinctive stripes and spots patterns and coloration. Then I ran across something listed as a Tremper, but that had the same type of pattern and hue as the very distinctive Bells. So this has me wondering - in some cases, does who bred the Leos, and what line they're from dictate what they're called? Is there more than one name for the same color morph, depending on who bred him/her and what line s/he descends from?

Thanks in advance for helping the noob. I think I'm gradually getting it, but don't want to assume I know what's going on - and then build from a faulty knowledge base. So I probably ask too many questions...

Both Bell albinos, and Trenper albinos are different in apperence, but both the same T+ Strain, the trempers that are darker(either due to temps in the incubator, or due to cooling) look like bells, but, to a trained eye, are visibly different, bells seem to always have a speckled look, while the patterns on trempers seem to alwas be "connected" if you will..

some breeders have come up with different names for Hybinos..theres urbans "Sunglow" A&M's "Hyglo" and trempers "APTOR"..in the end..they are all hybino

i'm feeling like i've left somthing out..so..anyone, feel free to add or correct me on anything

In terms of telling dark trempers from bells, eye color is more telling. I've got two bells who aren't speckled. Dark trempers will have dark eyes, the veining will be deep maroon to brown. Bells will have lighter pinker eyes.

In terms of telling a bell hybino from a tremper hybino, I'm not sure if you could... Both would have light eyes.

But in terms of distinguishing your run of the mill dark tremper from a bell, eye color is the best trait to rely on. Here's a pic of a bell eye and a tremper eye.

I've got a Sony F707 DSC (or something like that). I don't have my own site, but I have no prblem with other people using the pics as long as I get proper credit. I keep meaning to get eye shoots of my rainwaters, but they never seem to want to cooperate.

Bell and Trempers are NOT the same strain.

I have to agree with steve here, they are definately NOT the same strain, if they were, they would be compatible. They are not.

I think that Dan just mispoke/mistyped and was meaning to draw attention to the fact that both trempers and bells are T+. Actually, however, all three strains tremper, bell and rainwater are T+ (I believe that it was Jodi Aherns that had them tested).

That's a nice bell you've got there Steve! I've got a couple with similar bold patterning that I'm planning on breeding to a stripe this summer.
