I know this is probably a dumb question, but I am curious as to exactly how fecal exams for leopard geckos are handled. Is it simply a matter of making a slide up and looking for signs of parasite eggs or other indicators? Are dyes used? The reason I ask is that since I am helping with several rescues, and I'm trying to get a small mom & pop pet shop to learn how to care properly for the reptiles they carry, I may need to check on a fairly large number of these guys. I know fecals aren't terribly expensive compared to other vet care, butthey are so vital and they will ad up (at around $30 per test)
Is there any way to set up at least a preliminary test at home, and then follow up with the vet for anything suspicious? It would be so handy to be able to just do a fecal test on all of them periodically to catch any problems early.
I could be way off base as to the complexity of how they are done... but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask!
Do any of you with your multiples of leos do this?
