    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Question regarding Leatherbacks and Smoothies.

Well you asked ......unprofessional is crying about a little karma bump with this post, then hitting me with a retaliatory karma hit because I bumped you. retaliating is a no no with the karma system here.

You recently bought your first smoothie, you say that it is the same thing as an italian leatherback.

Try selling your Smoothies that you may possibly produce as italian leatherbacks and see how that goes.
after all they are exactly the same according to you?

Italian Leatherbacks and American Smoothies are completely different!

Allow me to offer you a very simple analogy to help you grasp it.

Rosy boas are a good example, the California coastals have no less than 13 locals, all have different looks from one another even tho they are all coastal rosy boas.

The different looks and different local is the reason rosy boas are kept pure.

The Italian Leatherback was hatched in Italy, the American Smoothie was hatched in California. the different looks and body shape on both of these is why we maintain them in pure forms.
 
Again Ed, I understand they are different lines, im not arguing that. How are they genetically different. Everything else I have heard and seen is telling me they are the same genetic trait developed in 2 places. Even the breeder of the original traits is saying that.
Around post 210 he states himself that the animals he has and dachiu have were related, then subsiquently outcrossed to gat as much genetic separation as possible. Id like to reiterate that I have not said they are different lines. Since the original trait was found they have been bred to a different standard, but it is still the same mutation.
The arguments you are using if researched (which sorry, im not that bored) could probably all be traced back to one animal. Thats the nature of genetics. Hell you and I could be traced back to the same gene pool if we look far enough back. You and I are having a disconnect somewhere and I think its because you are looking at the ILB vs. AS as lines and not a genetic mutation, whereas I am seeing it as a gene first.
 
It seems to me that the gene that causes them to look the way they do is the same in both. Otherwise if you bred the American bloodline to the Italian bloodline you would not get any "Silkies". Same genetic mutation/different bloodlines.
 
I have both the AC and Italian bloodlines in our collections, and I definitely know what Ed is talking about regarding the visible difference between the two. I think the distinction in this discussion is while they are both visual hets for the super form, silkie, they a very different in the size of the scale tubercles (smoothness), and the body shape/build of the AC line can look a little strange in mature dragons. I have heard the AC lines are not as hardy, for whatever reason.
I believe the reason for some AC line smoothies looking so different is because they are out of a pairing of 2 AC smoothies to produce some silkbacks. When the AC line is out crossed to produce "smoothies" not silkies,they are a better looking dragon, but they are not as smooth as an italian.

I am relatively new to the morph, but I continue to investigate through others within the trade.
